Hey All,
I aM floored. I just received notice from GA Board of Nursing that they denied the endorsement of my MN RN license because I did not meet clinical practice requirements . When I called the board, they transferred me to a their Legal Nurse Consultant who stated that effective July 1, 2008 GA would no longer endorse RN license from Excelsior College students with no previous RN experience. She suggested that I go to my licensed state and work for a while then try again, but she could not give me a time frame.
Has anyone else experienced this. I thought we should at least have gotten some sort of notice/warning before this type of rule be adopted by the board. I am going to file a motion for reconsideration using an Attorney. Before I entered Excelsiors program I called GA Board to verify acceptance. I had been accepted to a traditional LPN to RN bridge program; I could have been almost finished their too. I am so sad right now. I have been crying for two days. I think I will need to see my doctor for Zoloft.
I have been an LPN for over 13 years doing Med/Surg for at least 10. I work on a hospital unit right now. THIS IS SO UNFAIR!!!:banghead:

we have just been notified verbally from the board of nursing staff that the georgia nurses association/southern performance assessment center in collaboration with excelsior college will be on the agenda for a 30 minute presentation at the board's meeting of thursday september 18th, 1:00pm the board of nursing's location is macon , ga. the address can be found on the web if you are planning to attend: http://sos.georgia.gov/plb/rn/.
based on the large number of inquiries about the meeting, the board staff have arranged to meet in a larger space, next door to their main facility on coliseum driv e. the meeting is open to the public but there is not an open comment period on the agenda. gna/spac & excelsior is collaborating on the presentation and discussing how best to allow the graduates and students voices to be heard.
thank you for your many inquiries. we have also heard from supportive employers and legislators. if you have contacted your employers and legislators, please ask them to let us know of their support as well.
if there are any changes to what we have been told regarding the meeting, we will work to get the message to you. it will be easiest for us to communicate via email.
we are working diligently to resolve this issue to the benefit of students, employers and patients.
regards, debbie

I know that GA accepts the lVN to RN program, but most boards do not support the RNto BSN to Masters via excelsior.
Actually you've got that wrong. Once you'ev got the RN, no state "Cares" about anything beyong that. And it's that initial RN that GA is saying doesn't meet the criteria. You need to actually read the posts before you make statements like that.

My apologies, I was given wrong information. I wanted to go to Atlanta to complete my clinicals from excelsior and was told not to worry. I feel terrible about the nurses who have completed the program. I truly do understnad the time and effort. I hope this gets resolved, it can happen to any state.

You can go to Atlanta to complete your CPNE exam, however GA doesn't except EC at this time. I am hoping a lot comes out of the meeting in Macon.
I spoke with EC and they told me they were against the students protesting and picketing right now. They are please with what has been done so far, but, they ask us to please let their lawyers handle the rest. I personally think more can be done, but I will just wait until sept 18, and see for myself what their lawyers will come up with. I know GA will want more clinical, and I also know EC is against that, so, I will just wait, to see what happens. I don't like this!
Zoe I know none of us like the way things are going now.....I just keep praying that they will allow enrolled students to be grandfathered in but at this point I'm not sure that it will ever happen.....At this point I am exploring my options and I guess Sept 18 will be the big determiner.

According to the RN program directer here where I work they are required about 600 clinical hours. I work for a Technical College in the state of Georgia and they have an RN program.
