Well the official application filing period for Fall 08 is at the end of this month. Just curious to see who is applying and try to get a support group going because I know the waiting process can be tedious! :icon_roll
I more than likely will apply during the late filing period (hopefully), but I also am applying to the El Centro/Methodist Hospital Program, in which the official filing period doesn't end until the end of May. So I will apply to both, its the same program but one is free.
Has everyone taken the Hesi? And if you plan to attend at El Centro, have you checked out the new building? Also, what campus is your first pick North Lake or El Centro?

Hi, modelmama,
I'm getting my packet ready to turn in before the end of February for Fall 08. I just have to get my physical and then it will be complete.
Is the El Centro/Methodist program free b/c you work for Methodist? That would be a great program to be in! But, unfortunately, I'm not. I'm gonna try to cut back my hours and work around my class/clinicals where I currently work to be able to keep my insurance and other benefits. We'll see.....if not, who knows what will happen.....student loans here I come!!!
I haven't seen the new Nursing building, yet. Have you? Can anybody on here tell us about the new building? I'm thinking North Lake for my number one pick but I seem to flip back and forth. What about you?
What pre-reqs are you taking now? Have you taken any of the support classes?
I'm trying to buy as much "stuff" as I can right now before the program starts. I think we'll need black scrub pants and black shoes (no clogs) so I'm going to go ahead and buy those. Do you know of any of the books we'll need? If I could get a list of those, I'd start buying those also!!!
Good luck....

Well I volunteer at Methodist, you either have to be a volunteer or a employee. I volunteer 4 hours, one day a week at the information desk. I wouldn't care if I wound up at Northlake or El Centro, I just hate paying for parking at El Centro, but at the same time it would be nice to experience the new builing. Right now I'm taking the rest of my support classes, I'm in Micro, A&P II, and Dev Psychology now. I also have an English class that doesn't end til March 7, so that's why I'm applying late. But oh well. I have not seen the new building even though I park by it everyday.
I've got the book list of most of the books needed for first semester, I figured it out by going on efollet.com, picking El Centro, finding the class which would be RNSG 1423, and click any section. It will list all the books needed for your first year of nursing. I happened to clicked on the title of book and copy it to Barnes and Noble, so I can see what it looks like and save it to my wish list. The National Student Nurses Association has a discount on books through BN for members, check out, www.bn.com/nsna. Of course you have to be a NSNA member, I think membership is like $30. I think its worth it considering you get a lot of other benefits and important info and support as a nursing student. So when I'm ready to buy my books I'll just have to order. The only thing I have to figure out it what is in the $550 book pack?? I'll try to post the list on here.
Volunteering?! I need me some of that!!
Great thought process on the books!
I hear ya on the El Centro campus....that is a reason I'm flip-flopping. A new nursing campus- yay - but paying for parking ??? Not so much...

I'm actually hoping to be in the Spring 09 El Centro/North Lake program, but love to keep up with anyone who is in the "same boat" as I am.
Great info on the books - looking forward to your list being posted.
I haven't been to the new El Centro location, but some advice if you do chose - end up at El Centro. Park at one of the free DART Parking lots and ride the train or bus into the West End. If you're in the nursing program, you're taking enough hours to qualify for a free DART pass for that semester. A lot cheaper than driving all the way downtown and then also having to pay to park. Go to www.dart.org to check out your closest location to park and ride from. Even if you have to pay everyday to ride - $3.00 a day beats $7-12 a day for parking. Heck, that's lunch money! Better yet, book money.
Things I've heard about North Lake construction: The North Lake College Nursing building is suppose to be finished by Spring 09. I think it's going up in the current teacher parking lot.
Don't forget to buy black socks....
Wow, I'm suprised there are not more ECC/NL Fall 08 students...lol Spring 08 had a lot more...

Hello All! I went to the new building today to turn in my application for Fall '08 and the new Health Occupations building is VERY nice! I can't wait to start the program (hopefully this Fall). El Centro is my first choice and North Lake my second... It is a major contrast to the old building I will tell you. Granted, they are still sorting some things out but that should all be rolling smoothly by this Fall I would assume. Best of luck to everyone and thanks for starting this thread!

Hey Everyone,
I also applied into El Centro program for Fall. El Centro is my first choice, then Northlake.
I am currently taking Micro, A&PII, and Speech. That will finish off all my support classes.
We should be getting our letters in the next few weeks.

Who do you have for Micro & A&P II, do you attend El Centro currently? Good luck to everyone, hope we all get in!
I am taking the sciences at Eastfield.
I have Dr. Vollet for Micro and Ms. Oliver for A&PII.

I am checking in with everybody. In 10days they should have the letters in the mail. My fingers are drumming.
