I want everyone to know right off that this thing I am going to complain about has nothing to do with allnurses.com. Brian and his helpers would never let a thing like this get past them. I get a e-zine from Nurse Spectrum that just recently showed up in my mail box. I think it might be the first time I ever got one of those from Nurse Spectrum. Anyway is has this cartoon in it that shows a smiling child in bed looking at his nurse. She is saying "which hand". Now "which hand" is a little game that people play with children, one of the hands is supposed to have a treat and the child would know this. Instead, this nurse has two huge syringes with sharp needles and is smiling at the child. I think it is a nasty cartoon and a joke like that would be unprofessional and cruel. I don't post on Nurse Spectrum anymore but I am thinking of trying to get on line to say what I think about their little cartoon. Have any of the pediatric nurses seen that? What do they think? It set my alarm bells off for sure.

the cartoonist probably wasnt a nurse, but to have that in there is inappropriate. It ranks right up there with people saying "Oh, here is the mean nurse with your icky pills" Ya, try to get a confused person, or little kid to take there meds then!! Some folks just dont know when to shut up or to keep there cartoons to themselves!!!

Yep! It ranks right up there with parents who tell their kids..."You'd better be good or I'll get that nurse to give you a shot!"

Yeah, that's a pretty cruel trick to play on a child. Off with their heads I say!

Cherish...it's called an avatar.
OP...I think it's a horrid cartoon too. Poor kids already have a hard time with things like needles and medicine. If they did that to my kids, not only would my kids never want to play a game again, they wouldn't ever trust a nurse! :angryfire

Yeah, not a great way to get kids to trust us, but at least the cartoon wasn't directed at children...it was directed at adults to make them laugh at what some kids might think of nurses. Obviously it failed on real nurses. :chuckle

i also receive nurse spectrum e-zine. i tried to attach the cartoon, i hope it went through. this makes nurses look very deceptive.
The little kid has such a trusting looking on his/her face. I don't think you can see that here but I appreciate you attaching it.
the picture enlarges when you click on it.

I think it is simply HORRID. I am not a peds nurse, but know better than to ever breach the trust of a child with some game/gimmick to get him/her to take a shot. This is a sadistic and mean portrayal of peds nurses, one I don't find all that funny. Sadly, it stirs up memories of my hospitalization when I was a little girl and nurses WERE mean and stern. I don't appreciate this one a bit. It's in poor taste.

That 'cartoon' disgusted me. And i have a pretty good sense of humor.
