Funniest thing you've ever seen happen to a doctor

Published

It's Pick on Doctor Day! :)

I have a high regard for physicians, well, most of them, but it sure can be fun to poke fun at them.

Our hospital had a notorious, frequent flyer patient with multiple medical issues, and as we found out, this patient's problems were compounded in that they had some rather bizarre psych issues.

Everyone ended up liking this person very much, but the "episodes" we were to discover, were sudden. The patient during these episodes looked and acted possessed by the minions of hell itself.

There also was a doc at this time, who walked the halls with his chin in the air. You know the type I'm talking about...the flowing coat, perfect hair, and the airs of superiority waft out from them in billows as they make their rounds.

One day, the patient was being pushed out of a room in the bed. The patient looked for all intent, comatose. Sleeping like a baby.

As the patient was being pushed by the juncture of the nurses' station... the busiest place on the unit during the busiest time of the day, the doc in question happened to be flowing regally down the hall in usual fashion with his colleagues. He decided to ignore the fact there was a patient in a bed in his way, and tried to push past.

It was at that moment in front of God and everyone: ancillary staff, change of shift RN's, multiple phsyicians, secretaries...everyone...that the patient all in one motion shot bolt upright, grabbed a fistful of the docs jewels, and screamed in his face, nose to nose, "GET A JOB!!!"

The patient then fell back in bed like nothing happened.

The whole scene went dead silent, everyone's jaw hit the tarmac, and several people had to remove themselves from the area to find an empty room and burst out in uncontrollable laughter.

That was a good day. :)

We had one doc that loved to have dramatic temper tantrums. Throwing charts, pens and flopping down in a chair throwing his arms up in the air.

One day doc was having a whopper of a tantrum. The chart went sliding down the station floor, a pen went whizzing past someones head. The dr the flung himself in a chair. Guess what? As he sat down, the chair, with wheels, moved. Doc hit the ground hard, lol. Sort of put a damper on his drama.

The rest of us scattered like mice, snickering down the hall, and left him sitting there.

Ha! What a hoot!

Puts a whole new twist on the phrase, "O' how the mighty hath fallen."

The best part is how everyone scatters like mice! OMG. And it takes a few minutes to get over the tears, and red faces from laughing so hard before you can return and be seen!

1. Saw a doc like yours walking down the hall with a wire hanger still in the back of his lab coat he was wearing. There it was peeking out the back of his neck. I and everyone else just let him go...

2. Was at the nurses station and the LOL in the room right in front with the door open called out to me right after her doc left her and was making his way around the corner of the nurses station desk (out of her sight), "Nurse, that doc is an idiot, he's just a boy and doesn't know a damn thing about medicine. Call me the other guy, the grown up one in here!" This doc ended up at my side as the LOL was finishing shouting her request to me from across the hall. I just looked at him, and ended up snorting in attempt to stop a laugh. His face started to show anger, and I just said, "OH. COME. ON. that was funny, there is no way that that was not funny!" Lucky for me, he then just shook his head and smiled.

I didn't personally witness this, but heard about it from the eye witness nurse. The OB/GYN doc, who had been doing OB forever, had just delivered an infant and was waiting to deliver the placenta. The nurse walked in at the right moment, right as the mother was giving a push. She saw that placenta FLY out, hit the doc square in the chest and knock him off the stool! Then, she saw the mom look down and ask, "are you alright?" He was there one moment and gone the next!!

And I agree! These are hilarious, flying placentas and all!

The only thing better than that... Is the doc turning as someone walks in asks a question and gets hit upside the head, nearly getting knocked off the stool...Sitting there stunned.

Reminds me of a time long ago when I was a scared, young newbie.

First day on the job in a new hospital.

Doc sitting at the desk with his face buried in a chart.

I opened the reference/textbook cabinet directly above him, at which point no less than one Mosby's, two Merck manuals, and one 1000 page PDR came crashing out and fell on his head.

I was young and I was mortified.

Today, I'd point and laugh.

we had a cardiologist with a roaring case of small-man syndrome-- you know, the ones that have to be more bombastic and bossy because they're short. alas, this one was also blessed with a true baby face, pink cheeks and blond hair. a lot of people who didn't know how smart he was (and he really was a good cardiologist) would not take him seriously.

but the day that took the cake was when he walked into the ccu for a consult and the patient took him for the paperboy and asked for the morning globe. i thought he was gonna stroke right in front of us.

We once had a beautiful but nasty female OB. She degraded every nurse every chance she got. One day during a delivery, she decided not to wear a mask because the "VIP" patient's family wanted to videotape the delivery and she wanted to look her best. The patient, up in stirrups, pushing, suddenly sneezed and a large amount of urine came out, right into the doc's mouth (she was sitting at the perineum). As soon as she wiped it off, the patient sneezed again and got her again, right in the face! We had the hardest time containing our laughter as the patient didn't realize what happened. Needless to say, she wore her mask for every delivery after that!
