FSCJ Summer 2013 Nursing Students

Published

Hi everyone, well I'm starting this convo so we all can get an idea of who, what, when, and where with FSCJ. Good topics would include testing materials, the average ranking of points for the upcoming term, and any other useful ideas that will help us all get into to this crazy hard nursing program! :) So, lets see if we can help each other out....and it's kinda fun to talk about nursing as well :)

So neat to see these postings. I graduated from FSCJ in 2010. It is a TOUGH program. At orientation they told us not to work if you don't have to (although if you have no other healthcare experience I would recommend a PT CNA position if you can swing it), don't plan on getting married, moving or starting a family during your program. You'll be stressed enough without the extra stuff. Study hard and find a group of friends to try to schedule the majority of your classes with. Having people to rely on is priceless! Good luck to all of you!! Btw... Take Prof. Huggins for OB and Assessment if she's still there! She was my fave! She is VERY TOUGH but she's fair and she loves nursing! It rubs off!

Thanks for the helpful insight and professor recommendation!!!

Hey guys I was wondering if anyone knew how many seats they are offering for nights. I hear the summer class is a lot smaller!

I've heard 24 but I'm not sure if that's the case for Summer nights/weekends

Is anyone applying for the LPN to RN bridge program - Summer 2013?

I applied to the LPN program as a back up plan. My co-worker is doig the bridge program now she graduates in May.

Hi ladies! I will be taking the NAT on 01/25 and turning in my application packet at the North campus following the test. I'm hoping to get into the 2013 Summer nights/weekends. I must admit that I am SO nervous because this will be my 2nd time taking the NAT. I took it back in September and didn't do so great, I'm a horrible test taker to begin with and I didn't know what to do with the questions that I wasn't able to finish (now I know just to answer them anyways). I hope to be better prepared this time. I've made all A's with my pre-req's but the NAT score is just as important. So HAPPY thoughts and please wish me luck:nailbiting:.... I look forward to hopefully getting to meet some of you girls if I get excepted. It sounds like some of you have made so amazing scores and you should be so proud of yourselves, good luck to all!!:)

Best of luck to you!! Try not to stress too much...nerves can get the best of you so try not to be too anxious (I know that's easier said than done). Hope to see you in the program!

Best of luck to you! Has your co-worker offered any insight as to how she likes the program?

Funny you should say you are applying at UNF, I was originally planning on going into their program however I decided to go with the more financially responsible path for me and chose FSCJ's night/weekend program so I can continue to work full-time while going to school. That way I don't have to take out so many loans which is important to me as a single mom!!

My score came from my pre-reqs (except micro which I'm taking this semester) and my NAT. I have straight A's in my pre-reqs so those came to 104 and then the rest was from the NAT. I bought the study guide FSCJ recommends for the NAT but I'm glad I didn't rely on it too much because the study guide was WAY beyond what was needed for the NAT!!

Your score will easily be enough to get you in - are you hoping for nights/weekends or days? Either way, I wish you the best of luck and hope to get to know you a little better along the way!

Lucy - you score is fantastic. I had two classes from 20+ years ago that weren't A's - which bummed me out. All my other classes were A's though. I made A's on all my pre-reqs for UNF. So we will see.

I also will continue to work and care for my family. But I work part time and can flex my schedule so I think I will stay with day time hours. I'm tired by 9.30 so daytime hours are probably best for me. :)

I didn't use the NAT study guide either. I personally didn't think it was user-friendly especially after having used other study guides. It didn't really matter though because the other study materials I used were more than adequate for the NAT.

I wish you luck too, though I don't think you need it with your score ;)

Best of luck to you! Has your co-worker offered any insight as to how she likes the program?

Dizzymoose - I'm not sure who you are directing your question to.... but my friend who started Fall 2012 likes the program. She was feeling very overwhelmed for a while and is glad that she quit her job to do nursing school. She just started her second semester this week and still feels like it is a lot, but do-able. Her biggest complaint would be simply that it is a lot of material in a short period of time. But she is maintaining good grades so I'm sure she is doing fine.

I've heard that same thing about the sheer volume of material. The first term is apparently the worst which is something I'm concerned about, particularly if the Summer semester ends up being only 12 weeks instead of 16!

Has your coworker offered any insight to the bridge program? In general, does she seem to like it?

Best of luck with your applications!
