FSCJ Summer 2013 Nursing Students

Published

Hi everyone, well I'm starting this convo so we all can get an idea of who, what, when, and where with FSCJ. Good topics would include testing materials, the average ranking of points for the upcoming term, and any other useful ideas that will help us all get into to this crazy hard nursing program! :) So, lets see if we can help each other out....and it's kinda fun to talk about nursing as well :)

By the way guys, the Worksource WIA scholarship is a huge help! I can't stress that enough. Like LPNnowRNhopefull mentioned, most people qualify. Majority of us who are starting in January have been approved for Worksource. They make you jump through hoops to get it (taking the assessments---which takes 3-4 hours total, filling out paperwork and bringing documents, making appointments to be seen, etc.). At times, I was like 'screw this', but I'm so thankful I got it. My tuition and fees are paid for and they gave me a book voucher for the exact cost of my required books (which was $1,071.63 for Term 1, FYI). You don't have to pay them back. The only thing you have to do is submit time sheets every month (so they can make sure you're going to class), submit grades each semester (you have to keep a 3.0), and keep in touch. Seriously, keep it in mind.

Do you have to be IN the nursing program to qualify for work source? Or could I apply now so my spring semester is paid for? Tx in advance :)

They only pay for classes once you're in the nursing program. Not prerequisites or anything outside of the core nursing curriculum.

If you think you're going to get in, you can always apply now and start doing assessments. Then schedule your intake after you get your acceptance letter (they make you show proof).

Ugh. Okay, that's what I figured. :) Ty

hello everyone,

I am hoping to get into the summer 2013 nursing class and was wondering what everyone thought might be the points cut off for being accepted? Does anyone know what spring 2013 was?

thanks..

Hi! We'll have no clue what the points are until the application period is closed, unfortunately. :( but I think last springs cut off was 189? I think, don't hold me to it. Have you applied yet? Good luck if so! And once the app period is over, we'll all get an idea of what the cut off points were. :)

The instructors like the Littman Cardiology III. You don't have to get that one though. As long as your stethoscope has a bell and a diaphragm, you're ok. You need to have all-white, leather shoes. No clogs. I got some all white leather Adidas. I know a couple of people got New Balances.

Referring to your BLS course, I took mine with a lady in Orange Park named Nancy Crider. Only took a few hours one Saturday morning, and she prints out your certification on the spot afterwards.

Thank you so much for the insight. I ended up asking for the Littmann Classic II SE for Christmas (little bit more within our budget) which sounds like it will be ok for the program. Thanks again! Good luck with your first semester!

Hi all- question about the PSB NAT.......Does anyone know if it is better to fill in ALL the answers or to leave them blank if we don't know the answer? Do we get penalized for wrong answers???? help! :)

You do not get penalized for wrong answers. So answer every question regardless if you know the answer or not.

Thank u for that :)

Hi there and welcome! Unfortunately, I think it's impossible to take all of the prerequisites in one semester due to some of them being pre reqs for the next ( A&P I-A&PII. CHM-Micro). Take chem and micro last because you can apply to the program while currently enrolled in micro. And if you want to double major, that's cool, it's just by the time you get your second major done you'll be starting the nursing program, and Ive heard its very tough. I have a degree from up north and I don't use it. :( I have a job at hospital as a nurse tech so I get excellent experience and also be guaranteed a job :) Maybe look into medical assistant or CNA classes? That way you would get your "in". :)

Thanks!! So helpful 

I started with my A.A. and took all my nursing pre-reqs while obtaining that degree. I then got my B.S. in business management. I have my cna license but I work @ shands as a referral coordinator.

So did most of your credits tranfer

Yes, All my credits transferred.
