FSCJ Summer 2013 Nursing Students

U.S.A. Florida

Hi everyone, well I'm starting this convo so we all can get an idea of who, what, when, and where with FSCJ. Good topics would include testing materials, the average ranking of points for the upcoming term, and any other useful ideas that will help us all get into to this crazy hard nursing program! :) So, lets see if we can help each other out....and it's kinda fun to talk about nursing as well :)

Great news! I thought they would only be good for the nursing program Thanks for info!

I'm heading to my BLS class this morning and am taking my NAT on Wednesday then I'm all set to apply. So excited!!

Good luck! :)

Thank you!!

Just finished my NAT. Boy, that was scary. I was shaking the whole time! Anyway, with all said and done I'll be applying with 224.32 points. I hope it's enough to secure a spot in the N/W program. I'm going on Monday to turn in my application and then let the waiting commence!

Good Morning! I just submitted my application yesterday for the Summer 2013 start and I am already nervous. I wanted to introduce myself and get to know some of you while we wait for our letters. I am hoping I get accepted into the day's program. However, I would go wherever they accepted me. I hope everyone had a fantastic holiday break and I look forward to getting to know all of you.

Nice to "meet" you! I'm glad I'm not the only one who is nervous!! If you don't mind me asking, how many points did you apply with? Look forward to getting to know you more. Lucy

Hey Lucy,

Thanks so much for the response=). I do not have nearly as many points as you. I submitted my application with only 203 points but I am really hoping that will be enough. You have nothing to be nervous about and will get in for sure!!

Is the class size smaller for summer start?

-Angela

Angela, I think you'll be just fine with a 203. From what I've seen from other boards, the cutoff points are usually in the 195-198 range. I think the nights/weekends program is usually more competitive because there are less spaces but I can't say for sure. I don't know if they take less people in general for a Summer start but I don't think it's different than other class sizes. You'll be just fine getting in to days...no need to stress!! My friend and I (she has 207 points and is stressing, like you) on Monday morning to turn in our applications. I wish that we would know right away but at least we will all be playing the waiting game together!

So neat to see these postings. I graduated from FSCJ in 2010. It is a TOUGH program. At orientation they told us not to work if you don't have to (although if you have no other healthcare experience I would recommend a PT CNA position if you can swing it), don't plan on getting married, moving or starting a family during your program. You'll be stressed enough without the extra stuff. Study hard and find a group of friends to try to schedule the majority of your classes with. Having people to rely on is priceless! Good luck to all of you!! Btw... Take Prof. Huggins for OB and Assessment if she's still there! She was my fave! She is VERY TOUGH but she's fair and she loves nursing! It rubs off!

Hi all - I am also applying for the summer2013 session. My score ended up at 215. I have a friend who started at FSCJ Fall 2012. I don't remember her exact score, but I want to say it was just under 200 and she got in. So (Angela) a score of 203 is likely above the cut - good job!

Lucy2811 - Way to go! Very nice score! Do you have additional points for experience?

In addition to FSCJ I am applying to UNF and I just finished submitting all my stuff for them. The only thing I have left to do for FSCJ is the CPR class. I volunteer at Shands so I am hoping they will let me into one of their classes.

What did you all think of the NAT? I personally studied my tail off for the TEAS V and then took the NAT a couple of days after I took the TEAS V. I thought the questions on the TEAS V were harder and more though provoking whereas the NAT questions were less difficult but because they don't give you much time the stress level is high. I had already heard that you have to move fast so I went in with the attitude that I needed to keep moving through the questions and therefore I did fine on it. I think it becomes more difficult if you go in unaware of the time crunch. Although, I must say, I thought the pieces they chose for reading were dull and not reader-friendly at all. I felt like my eyes were crossing from weeding through so many in text citations to get to the meat of the material.

Good luck to all of you. Try not to stress too much.

Funny you should say you are applying at UNF, I was originally planning on going into their program however I decided to go with the more financially responsible path for me and chose FSCJ's night/weekend program so I can continue to work full-time while going to school. That way I don't have to take out so many loans which is important to me as a single mom!!

My score came from my pre-reqs (except micro which I'm taking this semester) and my NAT. I have straight A's in my pre-reqs so those came to 104 and then the rest was from the NAT. I bought the study guide FSCJ recommends for the NAT but I'm glad I didn't rely on it too much because the study guide was WAY beyond what was needed for the NAT!!

Your score will easily be enough to get you in - are you hoping for nights/weekends or days? Either way, I wish you the best of luck and hope to get to know you a little better along the way!
