The card may be a useful tool, but students' personal information should not be distributed to third parties without prior consent. Students should not have to take proactive action in order to protect their privacy.

The school did not send our information out to a private entity. When we signed up for school we also signed a consent form to be offered and be able to use the tools that are available through the school and it's affiliates. The school is affiliated with Higher One Bank, which services many of the nations college students and college students only. So by proxy, we get a card in the mail and we are offered the privledge to use it.:D I for one am sick and tired of my bank charging me fees that I have to fight:mad:. I have a student account with my bank and the contract said no fees. However, I am constantly being charged fees that should be waived. This is something we would not have to deal with.:D

i don't want my money to go on this card. can't i just get a direct deposit into my bank account?

You have the option to select the card for funds to be deposited to or you can choose to set up another account. You first have to register your card on the Refund Card website, then you immediately select your option.

But beware the downside of selecting another banking option would most likely delay receipt of the funds. Basically, if your funds are set to go to the card, the day disbursements are done is the SAME day you get money on the card. Going with your own account means funds are deposited AFTER disbursements are dropped.

I personally am just using the card for disbursements only so taking the FSCJ card deposit option. At least I have my $$ right away and I can manage it better from my other income. But that is a personal choice. U just want to get my money ASAP instead of waiting.

Plus like ppl mentioned before, there are other "perks" of having this card as far as acccount benefit features are concerned.

I'm NOT happy about this refund card. Not at all. It's one thing if they want to offer it as an option but another thing entirely to make me jump through hoops to get my refund.

In order to have my refund sent to the account that I used to pay for my books and supplies, I have to register on this bank's website, register the card they sent (that I don't want and now have to destroy), navigate through their propaganda in order to choose NOT to open an account with them, fill out a direct deposit form, print it out and mail it to them. Then I get to wait for them to process my direct deposit request and THEN I get to wait for my money.

It makes me angry that my school has tied me to this institution for several reasons, not the least of which is that this "bank" has created several artificial barriers to try and frustrate people into using their banking services. It reminds me of the last time I upgraded my phone and discovered that my "rebate" was coming in the form of a pre-paid card that I could only use to buy products and services from my carrier.

I'm just flat sick of companies finding new ways to keep my money from me and the institutions I'm tied to acting in the interest of everyone BUT their customers.

It wn't even take five minutes of your time to deny the card. Then you get your money as you always have. It's really not that complicated. No point in complaining about things we have no control over. They can't force you to use the card, so dont use it. It was simply an offer.

Hell, we jumped through bigger hoops to get into the nursing program. Again, its really not that complicated.;)

Question on a different topic: Does anyone know how early on Friday the N & W/E folks can pick up clinical assignments for the following Saturday morning?

I'm planning my schedule for the Fall, hoping to drop off my daughter at school downtown on Friday mornings and then head straight to Baptist to get the clinical assignment. Thinking assignments may not be provided that early, a second option would be to get the assignment around noon and then pick up my child after school, but that would still require assignments to be available a relatively early. Any thoughts?

Even if you don't plan on using the card, you might want to just hang onto it instead of destroying it. I mean it can't do any harm sitting in your wallet. Plus if they ever deposit anything there, at least you would have immediate access to the funds. It's not that bad, really. Just my :twocents:.

Regarding textbooks - I am trying to buy only what is really needed or used/required by the instructors.

I think the books below are listed as optional for Term I, so I don't expect any of them to be required by an instructor. (Please correct me if I am wrong!)

1 - Taber's Cyclopedia Medical Dictionary - have read several comments on forum that it is not needed/used - can use any medical dictionary or internet.

2 - Dosage Calculations - ditto - not needed if you go through the PowerPoints and practice tests.

What about these others? Are you purchasing them? Have you heard from any Term II-IV students who say they use(d) them?

3 - Laboratory and Diagnostic Tests - ?

4 - RN Notes - ?

5 - Davis's Drug Guide - ? (And why is there an "s" after the apostrophe?! :))

so when we register our cards, how long do we have to wait for our refunds?

i'm not really that upset about the card. i mean i could just go to an ATM and withdraw all the money and deposit into my bank account? right?

I know when I was in Days we have to wait until at least 12, and at 2 it was guaranteed to be up. Reason being is that discharges for the day are usually not know until then. It took me about an 1 to an hour and a half to get info, as you are also battling doctors and the nurses that need them as well.

If you have the same professor I had this term in nights, with clinicals at Baptist downtown, she had our assignments ready at 12pm. I don't think it will be any earlier.
