Okay here we are!!!!!!

so when we register our cards, how long do we have to wait for our refunds?

i'm not really that upset about the card. i mean i could just go to an ATM and withdraw all the money and deposit into my bank account? right?

If you are referring to FA disbursement, the same 30 day rule should still apply that we don't get any money due back until the end of September at the earliest. As far as the book voucher money from the school ($480), that has the same rules if you have any $$ left over. I believe loans are disbursed similarly. So if you have your card now, 5 minutes or less to register and then we all wait until 1 month in the program to get the rest of our moolah.

I know when I was in Days we have to wait until at least 12, and at 2 it was guaranteed to be up. Reason being is that discharges for the day are usually not know until then. It took me about an 1 to an hour and a half to get info, as you are also battling doctors and the nurses that need them as well.

If you have the same professor I had this term in nights, with clinicals at Baptist downtown, she had our assignments ready at 12pm. I don't think it will be any earlier.

Thanks guys, that's just what I needed to know. Hopefully I can get all the necessary patient info closer to noon than 2 so I can make the after-school pickup.

hjhd - I have so many questions and since you are also on nights/baptist maybe you can answer some of them... Where exactly at Baptist do we go to get assignments? And, do the evening classes run the full length (6-9) each night or do they run short occasionally? And, how long on average would you say it takes to prepare your care plans? And, what exactly do you do during clinicals in the beginning - is it in a group setting...pairs...can you let me know what to expect? Thanks! :)

Has anyone bought a pocket organizer? I was looking at them online and found out some have a belt loop and others have a belt clip. Our tops have two front pockets. Does this go in the pocket? Does it even matter if it has a loop or a clip? If it does, which one should we get?

Has anyone taken a CPR course at Signet CPR on the westside?

Thanks guys, that's just what I needed to know. Hopefully I can get all the necessary patient info closer to noon than 2 so I can make the after-school pickup.

I had a million questions too! For the record, it does seem to change from semester to semester, but at least for us, we were on the 7th floor. You go directly to the floor to get your assignment- it is posted at the nurses' station. (You will learn all of this during orientation before clinicals). The evening classes usually ran pretty close to the full 3 hours- more than once we got out late in one of our classes, but sometimes finished early in others. You get a lot of breaks- almost every hour for 5-10 mins, so it goes by fast really. Also, pharm & concepts are hybrid, so you don't have class every week. Its not 50/50 though, so you are in class more nights than you're not, but the nights you do have off are a HUGE break! Its so nice to have a night off every now and then! The care plans are tough to get used to. Much of it depends on your patient and how many meds you have. That part takes the longest. The first night of care plans I think most of us were up 1/2 the night. It got easier after that, but I think the first week or two it was a 6 hour ordeal. By the end I could do it in under 2 hours. Obviously this varies from person to person, but the consensus the first day of clinicals that most people didn't get more than 2-3 hours of sleep. The first week, we were paired up two students to 1 patient. After that, we had our own patients but were paired up on paper so that if we needed assistance, we had a partner to help us. Its basically getting comfortable touching the patient, speaking with them and doing a full assessment. LOTS of bed baths, linen changes, water/ice fetching, etc... You will pass medications, give injections, possibly start an IV. My best advice for the first term in the hospital is to get comfortable touching people, cleaning them, get used to poop, look for opportunities to help the nurses, observe them, learn from them. I got to start an IV because I asked "Do you have anything exciting we can do before we leave today?" and she said "Want to start an IV?" Don't be timid, try to keep in mind the only way you will learn these skills is by doing them, and take every opportunity possible to do them! Most of the time the things we did wasn't always even on our patient- we would follow the nurse and get to help with other patients. Also, we learned A LOT from the ACPs on the floor. They were very helpful in giving us a heads up about our patients and how to move them, things to be aware of with them, etc...I have other advice about your instructor too- I am pretty sure you have the same one. She is wonderful, but you can't ask dumb questions, you need to read the syllabus and course calendar and pay attention to the things she says because she is not nice when you ask something that could have been answered by looking at the schedule or paying better attention to her. Hmmm... not sure what else to say. If you have any other questions, ask away! :)

Anyone hear back from WorkSource yet? I'm disappointed I won't be able to meet my case manager until Monday after class :crying2:! This sucks! Now I can't get my books until then.

I was contacted this morning by my case manager. I was able to get my book voucher and books today! Don't give up hope! It is definitely worth it! I'm just confused, because my case manager is on the South campus...

Hello everyone! This is my very first post on AllNurses.com. I've been a full-time lurker prior to this post & I wanted to thank everyone for all their valuable knowledge. I would be SO lost without you guys!

I did have a quick question regarding our first two tests. I logged onto "Nursing Tutor" on BB & saved all the documents posted. Does anyone know which ones out of all these links we should be studying for the tests?

Also, is there anyone in Section 11 or 12 living on the westside who would be interested in forming a study group?

^ Regarding MangoGirl's inquiry, I too, am curious as to which one we need. Does anyone have any ideas?

With all this said, I'm looking forward to meeting all of you!

I heard from worksource but I am not positive it was my case manager, picking up my book voucher on Monday after class. And I got full funding!!! Which is a GOD send! So thankful for worksource :)

They both work- it doesn't matter since they do go in the front pockets of your uniform top. (I think one girl put hers in her pant pocket)

I just got worksource too. I didn't get a phone call, but I just kept calling and calling until they told me who my case manager is, so I went to see her and got my books today. I'm so greatful for this. I won't have to worry about paying for classes, books, and license!!!!

FYI, for those who haven't got a phone call...don't worry...my case manager told me that she has about 30 new students that she has to call, so you should get a phone call soon.

Check your FSCJ email. Monday degree audits are canceled. So all you N&W people who (like me) didn't know how you were going to get another day off from work won't have to now.
