From Maine

Hi, I responded to a message, then happened to look at the dates. Do any nurses and/or students use this site anymore? I just found allnurses.com and was happy to see a Maine page, but then realized it appears no one uses it. I would think this might be a nice place to see who is out there (anon), what they are doing, maybe the changes etc. Just wondering??

Hi Ya'll

I was born and raised in Maine. Farmingdale actually, however as you can see by my greeting, I nolonger reside there. I am currently living in Virgina, but wanted to say hi.

PaleSarah...I love your signature quote. I am a Creative Memories Addict...I was a Consultant until last year when I took on an Asst DON position and I just didnt have time.....8 hour days turned into exhauting 10 and 12 hour days....things have settled down pretty good though....occasionally we do still work a long day here or there...and I have gotten back to my scrapbooking though not on a Consultant level.

I became a consultant to pay for my addiction, lol. I only signed on last December and haven't really been working my business, I figure once I've "in the groove" with my bew job I'll be able to start working it again ;)

I keep checking this thread. Nice to see there are actually members in Maine. I'm a transplant from IL and have been here almost 4 years. LOVE IT LOVE IT!!

does anyone have any information on a cardiac drugs conference going on in Bangor soon? I gave the pamphlet to my boss and she never returns messages. I may decide to go on my own dime.

I'm attending. It's on the 17th of July. I was just looking for my info on it...sorry, I left it at work so I can't give you the exact location...one of the hotels by the airport. One of my co-workers attended a similar conference in NH...she said it was well worth the money....and it is pricey...$169. Fortunately, my hospital is paying for it. I'll get my info on it and post it here for you.

Does anyone work/live near York Hospital on the south side of Maine? My husband and I are moving back to NH after I finish school and am interested in what opportunities they may have for new graduates, if any. Thanks...maybe palesarah could answer this one for me....

I live on the NH side of the NH/Maine border, Somersworth/Dover/Berwick(s) area. It's a lovely area, albeit expensive. You can definitely get more house for your money on the Maine side. Property taxes are more in NH, but we don't pay a state income tax. Unless your stupid like me, living in NH and working in Maine, lol! I get hit with both ;)

Anyway, I graduated in 2003 and started as a new grad at Wentworth-Douglass in Dover NH. They have a really good GN program in place, and pretty much all the floors take new grads, including the ED and L&D. They definitely prefer to hire from within though, and take people who have worked there as LNAs, etc during school first. Portsmouth & Exeter both took new grads and offer decent orientation (from what I hear). I don't know about York Hospital, although I do remember applying there as a soon-to-be new grad, so they probably do too. Feel free to reply here or PM me if there's anything else I might be able to answer... hopefully they'll be someone in this thread who can help you a little more though!

Pale sarah-

I grew up in Dover and graduated from Dover High before moving to FL. I know exactly where you are, what it's like and that is why I want to move back home to be honest with you. I think it is the best place to raise a child and now that I have one of those too....it's time. I'm just waiting on getting into nursing school now so we can finalize those plans. Wow Wentworth Douglas will put you in L&D as a new grad. I work for a Children's Hospital now but either want L&D or a children's hospital to work at. If you dont' mind me asking (and you can PM me if you want to keep it private) what does Wentworth Douglas pay new grads? I hope to hear from you soon...keep cool up there, heard there was a heat wave.
