From Maine

Published

Hi, I responded to a message, then happened to look at the dates. Do any nurses and/or students use this site anymore? I just found allnurses.com and was happy to see a Maine page, but then realized it appears no one uses it. I would think this might be a nice place to see who is out there (anon), what they are doing, maybe the changes etc. Just wondering??

Hi floatingleaf....I'm from the same general area....not a native myself...."from away". Originally from the midwest, although my honey-bunny is a native New Englander! Love it here!

Hello all , I'm a Maine native going to school up at CMMC in Lewiston starting Tuesday. I am only taking the clinicals class, I got all the rest of the prereqs out of the way at SMCC. (Thank you Baby Jesus, no more recitations of the Krebs Cycle. Lol, I would HOPE...) It's an hour each way drive, though, as I live in Cape Elizabeth! I'll be commuting with several other people. So far, everyone I have met have been fantastic folks.

Has anyone here been to the Lewiston program? If so, I would love to hear from you about how time I can reasonably expect studying vs. working this school year. ( I am broke!) I have gotten really disparate answers, from about three hours a night (big whoop) to finger wagging, semi-hysterical, nearly-gloating, " you'll have NO TIME TO WORK AT ALL!!!BWAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAAA!" answers--and these have been from local graduates, including graduates of the prgram I'll be attending. (This sort of incongruety is making it hard for me to sleep at night, for crying out loud.)

Could anyone give me their perspective, whether from the CMMC program or not?

Thanks in advance!

PS I'm including the dancing monkey icon just 'cause I like it.

I did not graduate from this program, but I will say I had to work very hard. I do not want to get you nervous before you start, but I would say, be a good person of balance. I raised 3children (one only 14mo. old) while going through school. I did it, but to be honest it was exhausting. The reading load was immense (but I read everything assigned) Everyone learns with a different style, you will find what is best for you. I ALWAYS had a book with me, MD appt.kids at Sun. school, soccor practice, play practice....any chance of "waiting" anywhere. I just always had something, just in case. Good luck, many of us have done it, I know it will seem rough in the beginning, but you` develop a pattern. Remember to take care of you while you are doing this. Sometimes, no matter what you just HAVE to take a break, and really enjoy it.:nurse:

Working while going to school is hard....but it can be done. Many of us didn't have choice....work was a necessary evil. Just learn to balance your time....the lovely time management concept!! My nose was in a book every chance I got. I'm back in college now....working on a masters.....and back to trying to fit everything I need to do into a 24 hour period. Good luck to you!!

I love the monkey dance.....:monkeydance: :monkeydance: :monkeydance: :monkeydance: :monkeydance: :monkeydance: :monkeydance: :monkeydance: too!!

small paws, I am curious how you are finding it to be? Do you think it will be as difficult as some have said? I hope it is going ok, and you are not pulling out hair or anything of the sort.:uhoh3: I found the last clinical to be the most draining, only because by that point, I was really tired. It did not affect everyone in my class that way though, I guess we all had our areas of strengths and weakness. I thought of you and just wanted to post a note. acadia
