I do not travel, but have homeschooled my two youngest children. I followed my state guidelines and used homeschool programs after researching information on the internet. My son just graduated from a High School program which he received a diploma along with an official transcript from that school. He was accepted to three area universities and Johnson and Wales were he has decided to attend. We found that since homeschooling is more popular now, many universities and colleges are very accepting to the admission of homeschooled students. Homeschooling is so fulfilling and rewarding to both child and parent.

I have in the past and currently work with MCI educated nurses on my unit. I am very impressed with their skill and professionalism. Yes the program is very expensive, however the program (as with any) is what you make of it. MCI is accelerated and takes a very motivated person to get through the challenging courses. As a participant on our unit's hiring panel, the interview impression is what tends to get you the position. Good Luck with any choice of education you make. Just remember to study hard and always be professional and passionate for nursing.

Ditto Here on the low salary of PHN's. I worked over 5 years in the public health field and gave it up due to low wages and work hours. Monday-Friday 8-4:30 for me just wasn't working. I am now back in the hospital setting and love having week days off and more cash :-) I was so glad that I always kept my skills up by working PRN at the hospital over those years. Many of my PHN co-workers have been out of the hospital setting too long and are stuck until they can take a refresher course. I'm not currently living in Maine, but grew up there. I am in Virginia now.

Chesapeake General Hospital falls under the umbrella of Chesapeake Health Their website is http://www.chesapeakeheath.com The two main hospitals under Chesapeake Health are Chesapeake General in Chesapeake Virginia and Outer Banks Hospital in Nags Head area of North Carolina. Hope this helps. I'm sorry I do not have any salary information though.

I really enjoy being a part of the Riverside family. I was fortunate to have some of my clinicals there while I was in Nursing School. I accepted a position there straight out of school and found they had a very supportive preceptorship for new nurses which I found vital being a new grad. I worked for them for almost 2 years full time before transfering to their in-house staffing agency. Riverside is one of the few hospitals that does not utilize agency nurses from the out-side. They once did, but administration listened to their employees (staff nurses) and only utilize Riverside employees (in-house agency) which in turn was able to increase the salaries of their nurses. The area with in a five-mile radius is relatively a safe community. However, I would try to stay away from the area going south on Jefferson. There you will find some strip joints and some hotels that tend to have more resident stays then 1 or 2 night vacationers if you know what I mean. J.Clyde Morris and Warwick Blvd within the 5 miles radius tends to be fine. Crime seems to be higher in the Down Town Newport News area or occassionally Denbigh area. You know when you're close to Down Town when you can see the Ship Yard cranes and the street names of course turn into numbers instead of names. Riverside Hospital has an in house day care center and you can always contact social services for a list of State Licensed Home day care providers in the area. Christopher Newport University is about 1 mile away and offers plenty of opportunity for outtings in their Arts Center. Christopher Newport University is where I received my BSN, however since then they no longer offer a nursing program. Such a shame. Overall, I have enjoyed my nursing career at Riverside and can't imagine myself staff nursing anywhere else. :)

I find living in the Hampton Roads area to be what you make of it. Yes, the ice storms are horrible..... Just lived through a tough one, what was thought to be only a threat of a dusting ended up with as much as 13 inches in some areas of cold cold cold white snow on top of a sheet of ice. Good news is that now 4 days later, it has all melted away. The Hampton Roads area does have a lot to offer. There is alot of water ways to deal with, but if your a beach bum you'll be in heaven. The Yorktown area is one of the nices places to raise a family. I live in Hampton and most of my friends live in the Yorktown/York County area. Yes, the schools are said to be better and there is less city congestion. Like already mentioned, there are alot of hospitals in the region. I work week-ends as a float nurse for Riverside Regional Medical Center-totally love it there. And during the week as a Case Manager in Public Health. Good Luck.
