Freaking out and Idk what to do........

Published

Okay, I am a full time student and I work full time. I am doing well in all my classes except for Biology. For some reason or another I just can't grasp it. Currently I am in Bio 101 and we are learning the basics, mieosis and mitosis. Easy enough, right? Well not for me. Can anyone suggest study habbits for Bio. I currently make index cards and type my lecture notes but it seems like I need differnet ways to study. Any suggestions welcome. Thanks in advance.

Sometimes it helps me to watch animations and videos.

If you are doing well in the other subjects would a tutor help you understand these concepts better? Finding someone who can explain things well might be the answer.

Moon....you receive an A + + + for providing this excellent link. I put it into my favorites folder, thank you ;)

You might want to invest in a Biology coloring book. I used one when I took Biio and have one now for my A & P class. I have found them to be very helpful.

these are two links that i have for biology:

http://www.sirinet.net/~jgjohnso/index.html - home page of the biology teacher at frederick high school in frederick, oklahoma. this instructor teaches a high school class of a&p. you want to link into the biology i homepage. there is human anatomy and physiology intermingled with the biology ii stuff. there are plenty of quizzes and practice exercises scattered throughout this extensive site, but i could not find any answers. presented in a little easier than college level.

http://users.rcn.com/jkimball.ma.ultranet/biologypages/ - this is a very simple review of biology subjects covered in a basic college biology class from the online site of the biology textbook maintained and written by john w. kimball, a former harvard professor.

You guys are awesome!!!!! Thanks so much!!!!! I love the links and thanks for your help. I think your suggestions will be very useful!!!!!

Yes, videos are helpful and so are study groups. Offer some baked goods and pizza and invite some people over and make up games and trivias to help study while having some fun to ease the stress. I make up rhyming songs about the parts of the body, quite a few times during a test I sang my song I made in my head and it helped me remember better than just memorizing facts.

Those topics are tough. On my cable they have educational programs which highlight exactly what you are doing. The Standard Devients (company name) sells great video tapes (their customer service is horrible, try to get them on E bay or something) about everything from biology to math, ect. I purchased a few which made a big difference. Try cable tv first then E bay....

WOW!!! That is really awsome. Thanks for sharing that link. I marked that as a favorite.

Do you have a science lab for extra help? Utilize the web as there are many resources available.

You need to really understand a lot of the Bio stuff as some of it carries over heavily into Anatomy & Physiology. Mitosis in A&P is 10x harder than it is in Bio.

No, there is no lab for Bio 101. Like you said Bio will carry over into other courses and that is why I am freaking out. I did get a tutor so I will be having two sessions per week, and my professor is allowing me to sit in his other Bio class. That way I can hear the lecture twice, once on Friday nights and again on Saturday mornings.

Has anyone used to Biology for dummies books? Are they helpful?

Thanks to everyone who has responded. You guys are the best. I absolutly love this site!!!!!!
