Has anyone taken Micro? All I'm hearing are horror stories! I am in the middle of Anatomy and scheduled to take phys and micro during Fall semester. I have no idea what to expect from this class!

Horror stories?? I LOVED micro!! I would take it again and again if I didn't have to pay for it, lol. I found it fascinating.

i took it in summer school so i could concentrate on just one thing and have my lab right after class. read your notes onto a recorder and listen to them in your car on way to school and work, gives you extra 30 min a day study time.

ITA.
My favorite pre-req!
OP, it's not scary, besides if you can tackle A&P, Micro won't seem as scary. Micro was way more interesting as well IMO because you can see how so many of the microorganisms affect the body, why they do what they do in the body, their evolution/resistance and how it corresponds to your daily routine/the disease process. Loved it all.

I'm taking it right now and so far my teacher is awesome! The lab is really fun and the first exam wasn't bad at all. It seemed as if a lot of it was from anatomy 1.

I absolutely LOVED micro. Reason 1.) The labs are so hands on and interesting compared to basic biology and chemistry classes. Reason 2.) It actually applies to nursing! I needed to know this information for my career goal. This made it much easier for me to want to study. Reason 3.) I found the majority of the concepts to be common sense. Ideas such of portals of entry which explains where on your body the microorganisms can enter. Another example is how your body reacts to these bacteria (i.e. - coughing, fever). I have also heard horror stories from people. I had a really awesome teacher and I think that can make all the difference in the world!

It is definately a "love Hate relationship." I think it is a lot more time consuming than Anatomy and Physio, but in the end you learn so much. I think it boils down to your teacher as well. Be sure to look on ratemyprofessors.com to find a good Micro teacher at your school. If you find the right teacher, you'll love the class. I was lucky to have a diifficult teacher that taught about application rather than memorization and I walked away with so much more! I actually miss Micro labs!
Good luck, I agree with texasgrl, buy a tape recorder, it always helps to play back the lectures and type up additional notes and replay for memorization as well.
Good luck!
