Just got off the phone with my fabulous recruiter, who called to tell me that part of my packet has gone forward to determine my rank, which will probably take a couple of weeks. We've also scheduled my physical at Walter Reed for June 9. Hello, tape measure! LOL. We discussed having all my paperwork in and packet ready by August to go forward in October. I know it'll be here before I know it!

She also said the selection process is much more competitive than in the past, but I am a strong candidate with my letters of recommendation, experience, and GPA. And I'm motivated -- I really want to do this! *fingers crossed*

I love this thread!! :) :) :)

Specializes in L+D, ambulatory surgery, Womens Health.

My husband and the health care recruiter were the only ones there for me, but it was still a proud moment. And it feels good to know I'm in. Mine is Army reserve, still awaiting orders. I hear that should be 30-60 days. No more ifs, its whens now.

New1LT what branch are you going in?

Raki,

I'm going into the Active Army! I am prior service and sooooo looking forward to returning to my roots. Although I'll be on the other side of things, commissioned, I'm still returning to what I feel is my "home"!! What about you?

And doesn't that sound like me last year! If you're half as happy with your decision to come back on Active Duty as I am (I'm prior USAF) you'll be ecstatic. This is truly the best decision I ever made.

I leave for COT in 30someodd days at Maxwell AFB for 4.5 weeks. Then I report to Lackland in San Antonio.

My kids were there at my commissioning. My son's eyes were just so huge. It made me so glad knowing and seeing how proud he is. There was a gathering of staff from there at Luke AFB hospital and they sure made it feel official and special. I'm actually finally REAL!! OMG. I can't believe it is really finally happening!

Anyone just slogging though this paperwork process.... just hang in there! This is an amazing journey.

I forgot you're coming here! Don't forget to look me up - we'll go to the Riverwalk for dinner one night to celebrate our commissions, even if a bit late!

It's funny all us old enlisted heading back for more! I just want to ensure I'm one of the brass that they know is real. And that i'm not all full of myself and my rank. I'm still enlisted at heart.... Let's see how COT effects that.

I am DC no prior service and going Active army will be stationed at Bragg. I'm young and nervous because this will be the first time trully away from home with no friends or family. I'm excited, but freaked out because I'm worried about being lonely and home sick. Ill probably sleep, work, and work-out. I hope to make new friends that will become my extended family. Basically that's me in a nutshell.

Raki, I enlisted at 18 and went away from home all alone for the first time. It is scary. You will have moments of being homesick. But you aren't alone and you will be surprised at how quickly you meet people. Military is transitional and they are extremely welcoming of new people. And by the way, I have the same plan... work, sleep, gym. I'm afraid of being alone and leaving my family too. That is why I'm bringing my dog, so I'm not completely alone. lol.

Racki and Midi - You both are going to be sooooo surprised when you get to your permanent duty station. You are now entering an extended version of your family where you will never feel like you are not welcomed. Everybody you come into contact is in the same situation as you, away from "home". You will have an opportunity to become somebody elses family member. If you aren't going home for holidays you will be welcomed into a member of your units home as part of their family. If you want to seclude yourself into saying you're going to work, sleep, gym and repeat you're going to miss out on an experience of a lifetime. It will be an adjustment, but one that you will never ever be able to forget!!! We always had single soldiers in our home during the holidays. Every weekend we were having cookouts, hikes in the mountains, tours of foreign cities that we were stationed by, and all with other service members and their families. I can't wait to hear from you guys once you're settled. I think you'll have a different tone!!! LOL!!! I'm so excited for you guys!! I'm excited for myself as well. I miss that life I had and can't wait to get back!!! You'll never know another stranger!!!!

Heck, I'm a Navy brat - spent lots of time away from home, separated from folks I knew - and when I was in Basic Training and got a letter from my mom saying she and Daddy were coming to my graduation I sat on the bed in the bay and cried my eyes out - and I was TWENTY-THREE!! Happens to all of us, I'm afraid.

You'll be amazed at how many people you'll meet in your situation.
