hi everybody!i am also a fil rn here in canada.i do enjoy reading all your postings.goodluck to everyone who aspires to be in the land of milk and honey.i know you guys can do it.just one advice..don't keep up with the joneses, you could end up in trouble.to our preggy kutenurse,i was in the same dilemma before.got pregnant when i was looking for a job.good thing in north america, they dont discrminate, they will accept you with open arms!goodluck to those taking the nclex.you guys can make it.pinoy,eh!and about working in north america?i know you guys can do it as filipinos are known hard workers.just dont let anybody step on you and you'll do fine.mabuhay! :balloons:
hi there Pinoy RN here in Albany, NY passed my NCLEX last march took the usual road to get here..pass all my exam, visascreen, find an agency, get here, orient in the hospital and sit for the exam..everything is doin great..I am working in an intensive psychiatric setting (was a police officer in the Phil working as a nurse in a drug treatment facility). I have only 1 yr hospital experience but was accepted bec what matters to this center is you passed the exam and they have a great hospital orientation for it is a teaching hospital..not much for discrimination people are good my manager even help me to furnish my apartment..some co-workers bully you but you will learn to be assertive in time..good luck to those taking the exam..it was'nt that bad as it was publicized per my friend who took it last monday..
hi,miss suzanne4 i read all d opinions u have posted and they were all helpful.i just want to ask ur idea about getting a license to work in another state, example from north dakota to illinois?would it take sometime?what would they require?those who live in this area, where would be a good hospital to start with?thanks and i appreciate all your inputs...
hi neriners, i had the same problems as you do. i also took and passed the cgfns july 2003, passed the toefl on october 2003, waiting for my tse result i took last june 4, and waiting for my att for nclex. it's gruesome, isn't it? i don't have much experience either. i worked as an ophtha nurse and an or nurse for barely a year each. i think experience may not be needed but it helps a lot especially when your nursing skills are well-developed. not only you can gain confidence, but aid you in answering nursing exams ( at least for me). right now, there's no such thing as "direct hire". i have relatives in tx who dutifully searches institutions to hire me but they always come up with just one conclusion. they do not hire directly. they make employments available thru agencies. but beware. :uhoh21: your agency sounds like they're offering you no more choices. there's no such thing as "faster". if your agency is well-funded by your employer, then the faster you'll be able to process your documents. but there is in no way your documents will be fast-tracked once it gets to immigration and the like. waiting time is just like sitting in prison. :angryfire just be sure to follow-up with the person processing your documents. kulitin mo ng kulitin, til' you get your desired response. hope this helps... have patience sis, we'l be there soon... goodluck to us both!!! :roll
hi savvyla,i think it is still posible to get hired directly by a certain hospital in u.s.coz i tried to apply directly and i was overwhelmed with how fast they want you to work for them.or i think your situation must be a bit different fr me coz i am here in canada and currently working as an r.n and easier to go there than the ones in the phils.

Yeah, I think so. Good for you because you're from Canada. It's different for us here. It may be possible, but rare. If they would petition an employee by direct hiring, processing might be a lot easier. They would go through all the trouble (an agency would easily do for them) which I know, the reason why they choose to use agencies on their behalf. Besides, I don't think they would'nt do that for just a single or few nurses. I myself was under a "direct hiring" process. Just so everyone knows, my employer is the one shouldering all my expenses. Once I arrive in the US, the agency that processed my papers lose their control over me.:)

Sponsorship is going to be based on where you want to finally work. North Dakota is one of the coldest states in the US in terms of climate, especially the winter. Illinois requires CGFNS exam so if you haven't taken it, count that state out. Even for endorsement, you must have at least two years of work experience in the US to be able to get around that ruling.
I definlitely would stay away from California, and I have said that all along. Almost everyone of my students plans to work in NY for at least two years.
You do not need to worry about having a car and learning to drive on the other side of the road. Many nurses form Thailand have problems getting a tourist visa for the US, and NY is processed thru Vermont, so it also has the best time.

It is no difference getting hired if you are in Cananda and not a Canadian citizen. You still have to go thru all of the paperwork and processing. The only thing that is different is when you are a citizen of Canada and are being sponsored under a NAFTA TN Visa, which is only open to citizens of Canada and Mexico (meaning you hold a passport from that country.)

I agree with Nornor that most of the hospitals here in the US are very keen on their policy and procedures manual. Pray for me you guys....I'm taking the board exam next week.
