Please share something GOOD that happened at work!
I work PM shift (3-11:30) and I admitted a teenage ( post gunshot wound )para, with high anxiety issues. This is a very angry teenager and hates everybody but me. Night shift complained that the patient yells and screams at the night nurses...when I came back a few days later, they said all the patient is looking for is me, because I could " understand" what she needs...per night shift "what did you do to her? she trusts you?"

Nurse Massage Therapy
Hello people, I am unsure of what I need to do next...the " Nurse-Massage Therapist" role sounds inviting but some have been saying discouraging things to me. I have found a "Swedish- Massage class for Certification" from a local massage therapy private school, but I wonder if it's worth going for--- tuition wise, it's a little expensive for a 15 days classes...but after that, I will be certified...so I could practice. Financially, as a new grad RN it's tight budget right now...I am just wondering if I could make some money as a nurse-massage therapist myself.... [email protected]

hey guys, good news: I found a RN training program at a local Sutter Health member hospital here in San Francisco, it's going to be at a Neuro/Oncology/med-surg floor, I will be starting next month...San Francisco based hospitals offers are pretty good for RN's, the only thing is it's high cost of living here in San Francisco, but there's good public transportation so that's a plus. There's nurse/ patient ratio laws here in California, the only thing is they dont use many nurses aides on the floor. The market rates for new RN's in the San Francisco area are around 33.50-37.00 (base pay) plus diffentials if u work evenings/nights/weekends. There's hospitals that have contract with California Nurses Association (CNA). So the RN's are in the union of the CNA. This is just FYI.....California RN board, I believe does not require CGFNS. But make sure to double check!!!!! TO pinayhomegirl, I am sorry that I could not help you...I went to school here in the US but maybe Miss Suzanne can...the one thing I've noticed though, is that on my transcripts, the clinicals are part of the semester hours? I'm not sure....did u try to email the board for some clarifications??? Did u ask your agency manager for suggestions?? Did U ask your classmates/friends who were in the same situation before????? The other thing also, you cannot make appointment at Pearson unless you have your authorization to test...coz there's codes there that you would need to set up the appointment. Dont give up.....it's just part of the trials. Be strong, Keep your heads up!!!! You Go Girl!!!!!! God bless. kyutnurse

" To pursue something difficult, you will need COMMITMENT, FOCUS and CONFIDENCE. When the mind and heart are focused on the same thing...ANYTHING IS POSSIBLE. watch me." These are the words I lived by when I went to nursing school in Texas. We need to believe in ourselves that we could do it. Living in America as a second class citizen wont be easy you guys, but prove to the world that you are worth it !!! I prayed alot too oyu guys, and He never let me down. Ever. At night, when you go to bed, dont count the sheep, count your blessings instead. kyutnurse, RN (hey! it's good to be one!!!) [email protected]

Hello again People! I'm glad to hear that some of you still remember me....big HELLO to Miss Suzanne!!! To Rep!!! and to WOL of course! email me Miss WOL if you have questions, I will try my best to give you some good tips if it's the area that I am familiar with in DFW, Anyways...for all those new in-coming nurses, I must warn you one of my friends here who came via agency, the manager of the agency because her "suitor" and just harassed her completely coz she wont go for a date with him, lemme tell you guys something...just use common sense, you will be in a new place, dont be so trustful, keep your important items in secure places....(those mini-safety boxes at local banks wont cost much annually) Anyway, also keep a copy of the Nurse Practice Act....some other nurses will be asking you to do them favors....and again...what does the company/ hospital policy book say???? There's protocols....guys, and it wont hurt to get a professional nursing license insurance....and join professional organizations such as the American Nursing Association.....I have said so much, maybe somebody out there who could possibly help me as well, I need a good RN training program in the Peninsula side of the San Francisco Bay area, if anybody is in the upper management, it wont hurt to pull some strings!!!! hehehehe.... thank you!!!! happy reading gals and guys!!! kyutnurse, RN (hey! it's good to be one!!!) Foreign Nurses from the Philippines
Hello People! I have settled in the Bay area...and had my little boy already! He's wonderful and handsome! I am still searching for a good facility to start with...I just wanted to let you guys know that (maybe you guys remember me???) Anyway....I also want to mention to WOL...I lived in Dallas Ft Worth area from 1997-2004, it's a good area, but it depends exactly where you will be working at and which area you guys want to settle in...Dallas and Ft Worth are 2 separate cities but they are what you call "twin-cities" they are 40 miles or so apart....it would help to read about these places where you will be living at...Dallas Ft Worth have good real estate housing rates at this point, which means you would most likely buy a good new home there but also search the areas where you will be living at, and check the school system also...some places have good schools, some dont- so, just be careful where you want your kids to go....some are really safe, some are so-so. .. you will notice what am talking about, but be very observant where you will finally decide. There's not many filipinos in DFW, unlike in California. But also in Texas, there's no state tax, California you have to pay state tax, Texas is "non-union state" California have "nursing unions"....Might help you, there's alot of filipino-nurses in ICU in Dallas hospitals, that's usually where they are...I have said a few things, maybe this will help, maybe not...it's up to you.... GOOD LUCK!!!! I miss Texas!!! kyutnurse, RN (hey! it's good to be one!) [email protected]

What was the MOST ridiculous thing a patient came to the ER for?
A mother brought her 7 yr old son to the ER to get a "certification tha she did not abuse her son" she said it is needed by the social worker. She asked me how she can get certified of not abusing her own son....anyways, the ER doc didnt give her nothing. But referred her to a her son's pediatrician, come to find out her son has never seen a pediatrician, so we had to find a pediatrician for him. I dont know what the mother was thinking.

hello again!! Mr DJ, the mental health hosp here are very different to what you are used to...I would take the med/surg first. Filipinos usually go to ICU though....I noticed that the marketability is better, and better salary also. hi ms suzanne....we really appreciate you here, it's good that you have the patience and knowledge to answer all these questions for us. Now, let me ask you this, what do you think about NICU? (level 2 or 3?) My back ground is more long term /geriatric care and then I went thru that LVN to RN...am looking into switching either adult ICU or NICU....hmmmm, any wisdom would help....thanks in advance... :) ria
