For all of those on Medicaid

I honest to GOD do not know, nor care, what insurance my patients have when I am taking care of them. I really don't. (FYI)

If you are on Medicaid and either noncompliant or demonstrating an inappropriate use of medical resources (aka going to the ER for a pregnancy test) then you are not only wasting time and money but you are wasting taxpayer money as well.

I get the frustration. Noncompliant patients make me CRAZY. But lets just rant and complain about the stupidity without tying it to class, okay?!?!?! Seriously, where do you guys live that only your Medicaid patients are a PITA? Where I come from, there are people of all demographics who are rude, selfish, lazy, etc.

I understand that. The problem is that these generalizations are extremely offensive to all of us on Medicaid who are not lazy or trying to somehow milk the system.

We're not talking about those medicaid patients. That should be obvious to anyone who can read.

I am sure there are plenty of people who abuse the system, but I submit that the VAST majority of Medicaid recipients are good and honest people.

And I submit, as has been submitted DOZENS of times already, we're not talking about those medicaid patients. We're talking about the ones who are rude and entitled.

Yes, people with private insurance can be just as rude and demanding. That's been acknowledged. It's also been acknowledged that not all Medicaid recipients are rude.

When did reading become so difficult for so many people?

I ddn't mean to imply that only Medicaid patients are noncompliant, but rather compare the frustration one feels with noncompliant patients to the frustration one feels seeing someone work the system. Poorly worded, sorry. And actually, I do see patients who are well off financially who have their own entitlement attitude. But this thread isn't about that. If we started a PITA patient list, mine spans rich, poor, pretty, ugly, young and old.

And fyi- my son was on Medicaid for about 5 years when I had no private insurance. And I do not take offense to any of these posts nor do I feel like all Medicaid families are being singled out. I really do not think anyone on these boards is against someone who is unemployed/underemployed/disabled/working poor/children from using Medicaid.

lollol! Really?!! Did you actually read this thread? Who do you think most of the commenters are talking about?

They're talking about medicaid recipients with bad attitudes. No one has a problem with people who need help receiving help. We have a problem with people who take that help to mean they can abuse the system, be demanding, and waste resources so people who need and want help can't get it.

No is speaking about ALL medicaid recipients; just the ones who happen to be rude.

How many times does it need to be said? It can't be said more plainly.

I'm not quite sure where your going with this thread. I don't care about insurance either, all my patients get the best care I can give them. But, if on state ins. please don't demand I wait on you hand & foot at the expense of the rest of my patients and tell me you pay my paycheck. You don't, me and all the other working people you see are paying for you to be here.

I've had the same experience, but with Medicare patients.

The issue doesn't so much seem to be using but abusing

I've never wasted a moment in my life defending others comments that didn't apply to me. I simply can't care about others thoughts.........

If it doesn't apply to you, than there is no issue, a discussion has emerged about abuse as well as fair treatment for those not abusing. I have yet to read a post of a nurse that feels NO ONE on medicaid should receive excellent treatment. I have never witnessed medicaid patients not receive services in the ER or ICU that they need... as I"ve stated unless admitted, no one but registration knows their insurance, not the docs, nurses.. no one. We only receive that part once an admit chart is gathered.

So unless you announce your insurance, no one knows:D Any thoughts of being treated "poorly or judgmental" are either done by a nurse with an attitude for everyone, or you've made your status clear.

If I tried to show my behind in my ER as a patient and said" I work here... I want....." I would be terminated if my behavior was inappropriate, aggressive of offensive. My ill behavior would never be tolerated...

You need to grow thicker skin. He's already told you a gazillion times it wasn't about you in particular.

So, really, get over it.

I think what it comes down to for many of us is this: yes, obnoxious patients come from every class and financial situation. But, it adds insult to injury when the person who is abusive and nasty relies on the state and the taxpayers for help, and is able bodied enough not to have to do so... Bad enough to get the "I'm the customer, so kiss my ***" mentality from anyone but IMHO, if you are on state assistance, you have zero credibility. You are NOT a customer...customer implies you are spending your own money.

Entitlement comes in all income levels. I've only worked LTC, but my biggest PITA patients have been rich people. Not only are they extremely demanding, they like to flaunt their money and connections. Elderly people can act extremely entitled, especially when they're rich.

I also have a difficult time personally, seeing women on government assistance with insurance, food stamps, cash assistance, etc. with plasma t.v.'s, gaming systems, nice cars, etc. because I currently have no insurance, have VERY little left over at the end of the month for food, much less anything else, and drive a 16 year old car.

Two of my cousins were adopted out of foster care. My aunt got the first kid at 4 days old, and the second at 5 months. Finalizing the adoption took 3 years for the first kid, 18 months for the second. As wards of the state, my cousins were got WIC, Medicaid, and a few other services. My aunt worked full-time and owned a house, but when she went grocery shopping, all people saw was an unmarried black woman with 2 kids and a nice car, paying with WIC. When she went to the doctor's, people saw an unmarried black woman with 2 kids and a nice car, using Medicaid.

You never really know what's really going on in anyone else's life.
