For Fun - Things You Want to Buy Once You're a Nurse

Published

Ok, I know we should be frugal after we graduate and invest in retirement, pay off debt and student loans, etc. However, for a little fun, what kinds of things do you look forward to buying after you graduate and are working as a nurse?

For me: a Dyson vacuum cleaner ($500) and a set of NARS blushes ($200), the best blush on the planet. I've also been fixated on buying a Mini Cooper:

I suspect I'll buy the Dyson and NARS, but the Mini Cooper may just not be a good financial choice.

So what do you all want to buy?

I wanted to add.... a kick-ass party for my graduation and my hubby's retirement (from the military). Pig roast, big tent in the back yard, dj and lots of alcohol!!! Yeah baby!

Sound really awsome:yeah:

I want to purchase a newer car, nothing fancy, just a nice car that will last me a long time. I also want to pay off my debts and purchase a home! I have these goals set to be completed in 3 yrs post graduation, and since I am married and will have a double income that should achieved!

Yeah, but the NARS set really is excellent. I wont say that you can't find something on the same level for less, but it is a great product.

I'm assuming you're talking about the T3, thats the only one I can think of in that price range. A co-worker of mine invested in one, and I have to say, I wasn't that impressed. For that kind of money, I'd go with the Bio-ionic dryer [more like $200 retail]. I use one at work, and it make me smile.:)

[i've been doing hair for the past 5 years, and its currently paying my way through nursing school. Even when I'm done, I'm probably going to try to stay in the Salon 1 or 2 days per week. Best. Job. Ever.....although financially unreliable in times like these.:( ]

Wow you should never reveal you are a hair dresser now I will bug you with thousand questions about my hair,LOL just kidding, although I have one "What is the brand name of this Bio-ionic dryer,Chi? and where you can purchase it,thanks...

Bio-ionic is the brand name. The specific model of my favorite dryer ever [and I've used many] is the Bio Ionic iDry Nano-i5x pro-dryer. Like most of the ionic dryers, it has the effect of conditioning the hair as it dries due to its ability to micronize water into molecules [as opposed to clusters that group together] which are able to penetrate into the hair. The cool thing about the bio-ionic [and the T3 as well] is that the negative ions come naturally from minerals infused into the dryer itself, so there are fewer mechanical parts to fail. In all honestly, this thing does a lot for frizz control and shine, and dries the hair VERY quickly [it uses far infrared energy as well]. The official retail is something like $200, but searching around online, I've seen them as low as $125, which is the wholesale price I pay when I buy from a distributor. I'm not sure where you can buy them in store, as I haven't shopped retail for that sort of thing in years, but you'd probably find the best price online, anyway.

[Chi is a good dryer as well. I have one as a backup, should anything happen to my Bio-ionic]

But to return to the original topic, I'd buy myself.....something shiny.:)

I want to buy a house!! Im tired of watching HGTV and saying, Hmmm...someday after graduation.... I'll be the house hunter!! After I help purchase our home, I would like a beautiful golden retriever (had no time for a dog, 2 kids, and a husband while in NS), and Im going to buy my daughter one of those doll houses you build and add to(carpet, tile, shingles for the roof, etc.) it will be my long awaited project. FOUR MORE MONTHS TILL GRADUATION!!!!!:D

Ok, I would be one of those recent graduates. No I don't have a job yet. Although, I currently am looking. Unfortunately, new grad jobs are really hard to come by. As a graduation present, my husband, bought me a 2008 Chrysler Town and Country. Now as for myself, 10 days before graduation I had a terrible car accident which I thought was going to prevent me from graduating. Thank God it didn't! Finally the attorney called and said my check for the accident was ready. Yes, I know I should spend this money on my student loans and other miscellaneous bills but I will do that after my long awaited BREAST REDCUCTION, which all doctors stated would relieve my severe neck and back pain (I know have several bulging disks). I also have been a very good girl and dieted to help reduce the neck and back strain. I just saw the plastic surgeon today and he said that a breast reduction is imperative as well as a tummy tuck. Yes, I know this is greedy but I am hopefully going to have the surgery before the month is out. Plus it will give me time to keep looking for a job and interview. No companies are hiring right now. I must be patient.

But I am so EXCITED! Thanks everyone for your awesome posts of inspiration.:yeah:

First, let me say I am glad you are okay from the accident! Next, we all are (or already have been) working so hard while in ns, not to mention all the work we did just to get us into ns. We are doing this for many different personal reasons but the bottom line is that we are in incredibly difficult programs that many, many people who apply never get into. The surgery you are going to have will relieve pain in your neck and back, last I heard nurses need their backs... My point is, even if you WERE splurging (which you are NOT) you would still deserve it. You have worked very hard to earn the RN behind your name. You now owe it to yourself and your family to keep in the best health you can so you will be the best nurse you can be. I wish you well with your surgery, keep us posted on how it goes.:heartbeat:heartbeat:heartbeat

Someday...

I laughed so hard at this. Nice and unexpected. :yeah:

After I finish school and get my first nursing job, I'll spend a part of my first paycheck taking my mother out to a lovely dinner. She's been a real big help in enouraging me to go back to school. After that, I think I'll work on saving up for a Honda Fit. It's a cute car and it'll last me a long time. *love Honda*. Loans and bills fall in there somewhere too.

You should really wait and let your insurance cover your breast reduction. Insurance usually covers and it is great. Had mine done on a Thur-Fri and back to work on Monday.

The only thing I want is to land a good job as a new grad with no prior working hospital experience. That is what I pray for each day. After that I plan to buy a car, just an inexpensive used one that will last me a long time. I then will live frugally and pay off student loans and save, save, save!!! Maybe I can also find a husband somewhere in there too???

Call me superficial but botox and boobs are on the list!!! And I'm not the only one in my class.. maybe we can get a group rate!

Well, I just want a BEAUTIFUL BEAUTIFUL condo all to myself 2-3 bedrooms preferably, and a very nice car. I also want to travel to Europe since I have never been anywhere before in my life
