Ok, I know we should be frugal after we graduate and invest in retirement, pay off debt and student loans, etc. However, for a little fun, what kinds of things do you look forward to buying after you graduate and are working as a nurse?
For me: a Dyson vacuum cleaner ($500) and a set of NARS blushes ($200), the best blush on the planet. I've also been fixated on buying a Mini Cooper:
I suspect I'll buy the Dyson and NARS, but the Mini Cooper may just not be a good financial choice.
So what do you all want to buy?
My List:
-The whole family package (wedding, house, baby) when the time is right
-I'll probably need a new car by then, not sure what though
-A massage once a month for a year
-A real bed! Not a mattress and boxspring on the floor!
-Pay off any credit card debt
Mainly, I look forward to not having to live paycheck to paycheck and stress about making it, being able to build a savings, and being able to live a bit more comfortable lifestyle.
I've also agreed to be my boyfriend's "suga mamma" for a little while so he can hurry and get through school himself without working fulltime, so he can hopefully get a well-paying job as well and we can start that whole family package.
A Subaru Tribeca for me
I am a mama - wanting more babies and currently have a PT Cruiser and a 1500 Dodge Ram (hubby's obviously). We've thought about the mini-van... but are not ready for that stage in our lives yet (we're still mid 20's). The Subaru can have 7 passengers - and it looks so much better than a mini-van and gets the same mileage! YAY!!!

A shame that some Americans will not purchase American cars, given that our automotive industry is suffering. Anyway, if your going to buy a new bed, I would recommend the Select Comfort beds... I own one, I bought it when I came home from the war after sleeping in various locations, some of them hostile. I love my SC bed. No I dont own any stock in them either, for those about to may a sly remark. After a good nights work, I go to bed in SC bed. Great sleep, I wish I could take my SC bed with me everywhere I go,esp to the Catalina Wine Mixer
Sorry... I am PROUD to be an American... but won't buy an American car #1 - they are not near as reliable as Subaru, Honda, Toyota (check consumer reports)... #2 This trouble is the fault of the CEO's of these auto makers. I do feel greatly for the people who are loosing their jobs. May God help them find something to replace the income.
ps - I wouldn't buy a NEW car anyways... they loose 20 - 30% as soon as you drive them off the lot.

Thats the thing, most American cars are basically designed to be throw-away. Many of them are engineered to last about 5 years, and then you're supposed to buy another one. Otherwise, they just turn into money pits half the time. You can see this even in the choice of interior materials. Nothing but cheap looking plastic EVERYWHERE. It seems like even if you try to take care of them, they look like hell in about 5 years anyway. I'm not even just talking about economy cars, either. Even the Cadillac CTS, for example, uses far more plastic than you would reasonably expect from a car in that class/price range.
My 10 year old M3, by contrast, still looks relatively new, because BMW decided to use quality materials from the start. Also, I've had the car for over 3 years and I haven't spent a single cent on anything other than brakes, tires, rotors, and oil changes [all routine maintenance/wear and tear items]. Combine this with the fact that I only paid $16,500 for it [in excellent condition, BTW], and I don't understand the appeal of buying a new American car off the lot. By spending a little time searching for just the right car, I ended up with something that performs better [huge understatement], arguably looks far better, is unbelievably fun to drive, and is more reliable for about the same price.
I agree with not buying American cars. I currently have an Acura and have always had a foreign make vehicle. They last longer, and are better quality all around (IMHO). I would take my lovely little car to the CWM, but that would be a damn far drive from the East Coast..........:smackingf
