For Fun - Things You Want to Buy Once You're a Nurse

Published

Ok, I know we should be frugal after we graduate and invest in retirement, pay off debt and student loans, etc. However, for a little fun, what kinds of things do you look forward to buying after you graduate and are working as a nurse?

For me: a Dyson vacuum cleaner ($500) and a set of NARS blushes ($200), the best blush on the planet. I've also been fixated on buying a Mini Cooper:

I suspect I'll buy the Dyson and NARS, but the Mini Cooper may just not be a good financial choice.

So what do you all want to buy?

My husband has one as his company car. I'm generally a Toyota/Honda person, but this little car is pretty nice. They do need to make a few improvements, but it IS the first year that they are out. The leather is nice, too---has double contrast stitching and is sporty. You'll love one when you get one!

This car is beautiful. Unfortunately, I definitely can't afford this mama until after nursing school is finished. :D

A friend of mine bought one of those beds. As a massage therapist she got a pretty good discount on it from the actual SC company. If I am not mistaken she aid they give the same discount to nurses! Also she LOVES hers and swears by it!

A shame that some Americans will not purchase American cars, given that our automotive industry is suffering. Anyway, if your going to buy a new bed, I would recommend the Select Comfort beds... I own one, I bought it when I came home from the war after sleeping in various locations, some of them hostile. I love my SC bed. No I dont own any stock in them either, for those about to may a sly remark. After a good nights work, I go to bed in SC bed. Great sleep, I wish I could take my SC bed with me everywhere I go,esp to the Catalina Wine Mixer

Thanks Happilymarried for the well wishes. I still have pain from the accident and some numbing in my left hand and thumb. I hope this is due to the bulging disks pinching the nerves. The plastic surgeon's office called on Friday and scheduled my breast reduction and tummy tuck for January 22. 2009. I am so excited I can't even tell you. I am going to make one of my RN graduate goals come true. Unfortunately for me the two surgeries together require 6 weeks recovery. It doesn't matter I am still putting in applications all over town to get a job as soon as the doctor releases me. Hopefully I will be working as an RN new grad by the middle to end of February.

For all of you nursing school students out there.........

Don't let anyone rain on your parade. You worked hard in school and you deserve to achieve the goals you have set for yourselves. Maybe not all of them at once but at least one at a time, most important first. I also want to thank the person that posted this awesome thread. I has been a pleasure to read all of these posts and have all of you behind me wishing me well on achieving my graduate goal.

In order of priority:

Pay off my student loans

Start socking away huge chunks of my paycheck for retirement, I'm pushing 40 downhill!

Buy a house the right size for our family (5 people in a 2 bedroom just doesn't cut it long term!)

a really nice dishwasher (have a piece of crap right now, have always wanted Dishdrawers)

A big dresser that the drawers don't fall out of when you open it!

Hire a housekeeper (I hate cleaning and dh sucks at it!)

Take a fun family vacation, maybe Disneyworld?

Pay off above house in

Save up to go back to school for an APN, possibly a DNP?

I guess I'm in the more practical camp here. :smokin:

ETA - I remembered a couple more:

Cosmetic dentistry work - my teeth aren't horrible but I have a cap right in front that isn't the same color as the others and I hate that.

Tummy tuck at goal weight - I had twins at my highest weight (severly obese) and have lost 80 pounds so far. I have more to lose but when I get there I want the flab gone!

I've just started and have a long 2 -3 years ahead of me....but I already have my secret list to treat everyone for putting up with me!

I want to get my hubby a new truck. He is driving a 2002 ecomony car right now to save money (its paid off and the gas mileage is good) and he hates it. It will be about 10 years old when I am done.....praying it makes it.

Take the family on vacation! Like someone else posted we also are used to vactions once or twice a year. It will be hard not seeing our extended family for two years!

Pay of student loans. Besides our mortage it will be the only debit we have.

Save for retirement. We cashed out some over our current investments so that I can go to school and not have to work full time.

I would say that I want a new Dooney and Bourke purse, but my hubby got it for me for Christmas as a huge surprise!

Finally, I want a new soft-top 4 door Jeep!

I would love some new furniture. I can run my current vehicle into the ground, I rather like not having a car payment!
