For Fun - Things You Want to Buy Once You're a Nurse

Published

Ok, I know we should be frugal after we graduate and invest in retirement, pay off debt and student loans, etc. However, for a little fun, what kinds of things do you look forward to buying after you graduate and are working as a nurse?

For me: a Dyson vacuum cleaner ($500) and a set of NARS blushes ($200), the best blush on the planet. I've also been fixated on buying a Mini Cooper:

I suspect I'll buy the Dyson and NARS, but the Mini Cooper may just not be a good financial choice.

So what do you all want to buy?

Ok...I know you can't buy kids...but I really just want to have babies. I know lots of brave women that have babies during nursing school and I just wanted to wait until after I graduated. I just found out that I'm pregnant with a baby girl. Thank god....she's due the week of graduation. :p Cutting it a little close but I couldn't be happier. Maybe she'll surprise me and come a little early. I would be honored to have my daughter at my graduation. I guess I'll keep my fingers crossed.

oooh clothes. maybe some things that actually fit. and look nice. oh yes.

Oh I know..some regular cloths...I seems to forgot how to look good while in nursing school, just dont have the time!!!

The fact that the price of these has dropped so much just when I have to cut back so much time at work makes me cry a little.:crying2:

If I wasn't in the middle of nursing school, I'd buy one in a heartbeat.

i would love to buy my husband soon to be, a perfect nice, black, brand new, mercedes-benz slr mclaren ?!!!

I want to take a trip to places I have never been before with my DH. I want to get a newer car that I WANT, not something that was handed down to me or that I can drive the kids in.(They are in college now but we still have minivans.) Pay for my kids' college. I want to go on an aid trip or mission trip to see some of the world and share my new found abilities. Save for retirement....

What a great thread!! There have been a bunch of these in the past, but what better than a motivational thread as we head into a new semester? :)

I'm shallow in some of my wants. I have given up so much for pretty much forever because I've never had money, and this will be the first time I'll have a decent income.

Minivan for hubby - going anywhere with 2 in corificeats and a teenager all stuffed into the back seat of a Honda Civic has been a nightmare this past year and a half

Plasma Flat Screen for hubby who has been the most supportive person in the universe

Nice home - thinking I just want to buy a plot of land and a brand new modular...I'm just so sick of living in other people's hand me downs only to find how badly they took care of them...was thinking of a built home, but I don't like all of the rules of the communities, eh I dunno...just something BRAND NEW with working plumbing, electric that meets this century's standards, and a dishwasher

vacation to visit hubby's family - pretty much anything hubby wants to do, I want to do, because he's really done so unbelievably much to make school work for me

And now the all about me part :)

nice hair cut and a make over (and a consult w/ a great expensive hairstylist and make up person to help me pick the right one)

tummy tuck and a boob job - hubby promised me one once I hit 135lb :)

new wardrobe (of course...to go with the new boobs!)

hybrid Honda or Toyota (has to come after the need of the family minivan unfortunately)

hiking trip out in the desert - I've gone day hiking in Palm Springs, CA a few times and I have fallen in LOVE with the desert and the mountains out there. I really would love to take a week long guided hike through the desert or the mountains out west somewhere. Its replaced a trip to Northern Ireland as my #1 "to do" before I die (my family came from a small town in Northern Ireland around the 1890's and I've always wanted to go there and see what it was like)

------------

In reality though, the plan once LPN school is out is to move closer to DH's work (we live 45 min away right now), get a newer minivan, visit his family for the first time in years, get myself a job closer to home (I currently work an hour away in the opposite direction of hubby), and then work on figuring out where we want to live for the next 15 years (till our kids all move out) I'm also slated to start RN school right after I finish my LPN (1 semester of pre-reqs and then into the RN program), so I figure we'll get a second new car for me once I get my RN, and then work towards my boob job, hubby's laser eye surgery, and a real family vacation - maybe that trip out to the desert. :)

I'd love to throw "moving to South Cali" into the line up, but I don't think hubby is interested in leaving his job :( I just absolutely LOVE the atmosphere out there. I could go on forever about it. :)

I'm looking forward to not stressing about where the money is coming from to pay bills!!! I also want my boyfriend to stop working 2 jobs to bring in some extra money. I'd like to let him take some classes for a change (he loves :heartbeat taking classes). On the more materialistic side - CLOTHES....and lots of them. I never buy myself new clothes.

I'm also looking forward to just working....not working a full time job, and going to school and having 2 kids at home. Working with the 2 kids at home sounds grand to me!

I wanna buy a house. That would be nice not to pay rent anymore and actually own something.

When I become a nurse ( Prayerfully this year July 25, 2009 !), I would like to buy a home. I've moved a total of 6 times within the past year. Due to leaving home at 18 years old, and not having alot of income, I've had to rent rooms from strangers( really scary) and have had the experience of being homeless and staying at motels. So buying a home will be very important to me.

After I get my new home, I'll probably get a new car ! I would also love to get a small puppy as well. And of course new colthes and new scrubs to wear to work. Sigh- Just to think in a few short months I'll be a nurse ! I plan to take the NCLEX ASAP after I graduate. What a great thread, right before the semester.
