Ok, I know we should be frugal after we graduate and invest in retirement, pay off debt and student loans, etc. However, for a little fun, what kinds of things do you look forward to buying after you graduate and are working as a nurse?
For me: a Dyson vacuum cleaner ($500) and a set of NARS blushes ($200), the best blush on the planet. I've also been fixated on buying a Mini Cooper:
I suspect I'll buy the Dyson and NARS, but the Mini Cooper may just not be a good financial choice.
So what do you all want to buy?
I think I would blow my first pay check on whatever my kids and I wanted! Then, I would start to pay off my loans and get a place of my own. But.......if I could dream a little dream for a brief moment I would:
Take a long summer vacation with my children that involves going somewhere by plane
Buy an expensive hand bag
Always wanted a huge flat screen
A new car with all wheel drive
Kick my no good cheatin, low down dirty pig of a man to the dump! (This will actually be reality)
Guess that means I'd like my very own cute little home or huge mansion type, doesn't matter as long as its mine
Oh, I would also like to fall asleep at night without thinking of all the nursing school stress stuff that's been haunting me for 4 yrs now. Can you all imagine that!
I would get
1. house
2. help pay for my wedding
3. new cars for the honeybun and I, a cadillac cts for me and whatever he wants or an suv of some sort.
4. Pay off student loans if hospital doesn't pay for them.
5. Save for NP school
6. Save for retirement
7. Foster/Adopt a kid
8. A new pink laptop
9. New clothes and shoes
10. Lasix for my blindness!
11. Get my teeth whitened, They are already pretty white wanna see if they can get any whiter. LOL
12. A vacation for me and the honeybun.
13. Take the cats to the vet for a full work up.
14. Get a dog to go with the house.
15. Help underprivileged kids in the community, I know how it feels to have nothing.
16. Send my $30/month to an animal shelter of my choice.
17. Take my family out to eat on me for once.
18. Get the cats the new and improved litter box ($300) it works like a toliet, no more scooping poop. The one they have now is old ($200)
Wow I didn't realize I wanted so much, I think I will be working 2 jobs for all this. LOL
These started off in order then a I kept thinking and they got scrambled. LOL
I love mini coopers too! Cute and economical! I already have a house and since I'm doing my RN part time (over 7 years!-one and a half years to go!) I won't have any debt to pay off, so I'm looking forward to days off with no schoolwork! I would really like to get a dog - brown mini pinscher and having a couple of kids, of course a relaxing beach vacation before all that.
I want to go to Paris - with my girl friends and eat lots of cheese, not feel guilty, and then go to the Italian Riviera and have someone bring me breakfast in bed. Then I want to have a massage, and sleep uninterupted by small people, or husbands or phones, or cats or my charge nurse asking me to come in early.
thats all.
oh and a lifelong supply of good chocolate for PMS sx.

My goals are small at first... Move into an apartment or house that is above ground. We have been in basement apartments for 4 years and I just can't take the gloom much longer. Purchasing decent insurance through work is going to be a great use of my money. Helping my husband get through his schooling. I would like to get a car someday soon that was made in this century. I am not too picky though. Just one where all the doors open and that I might not to have repairs done 5 times a year. I will start a college fund for my little one (who is still a fetus at the moment). I want to buy all the healthy food at the grocery store that I want! I want to buy my family Christmas and birthday presents again. The most wonderful thing it will buy me is 4 days off a week! Fabulous.
