Well....found out yesterday that for the first time in over five years they have too many applicants for spots in our program so it will be competitive. They have over 70 people that are planning on applying so far for 45 spots. Anyway that is the news on this end right now......I am still waiting to see what my score was on that NLN preadmission test to see if I can apply or not. I am a bit stressed about it, but I am trying to keep my thoughts positive!

I heard that this years class is the largest to ever be admitted- 69 new nursing students, and the class taking prereques is even larger! The program I graduated from is looking for additional instructors for next year. Looking good for nursing!

They have been saying we were getting a new building for years now, but have never done it.......as it is the health classes are in an old elementary school. They got a new gym and are getting new apartments though! We have 3 instructors for Nursing 1 and thats it so I don't know what they are gonna do...they really don't have room for anymore classes..........

I know of one school that takes all of the qualified candidates and does a "lottery" to see who will accepted. Another puts you on a first-come, first-served list. But only after your application has been accepted as complete will either program even look at you.

I think the philosophy on this is that sometimes students look good on paper, but don't necesarily make the best nurses so they give all qualifieds the same chance.

I think the wait list for RN programs in my area is around 1-2 maybe 3 years by now, although i think that LPN's can transition in quicker than someone who is not an LPN. Just from what I've been hearing. ;)

Wow 5 yrs.. that's a long time.

During economic downturns there has always been an increase in nursing school applicants. This time the effect is doubled by all the publicity.

Here they do use GPA's and such so it is done by academics at least.......I would not like the lottery system.......

The nursing school here has 6 applicants for every spot this year. I am glad I went into nursing when I did!
