FNP Graduate from Chamberlain College of Nursing Dec 2015

Published

I'm a family nurse practitioner and graduated from Chamberlain College of Nursing's FNP program as of December 2015.

Lately I have been getting a lot of questions from nurses either looking to start Chamberlains FNP program or who are in the program.

I decided that I would create a blog to address these questions. Feel free to ask me anything about Chamberlain's FNP program.

Does this mean that you do clinical's throughout the whole program or is it at the end?

Hi chamberlainfnp2015,

Thank you for your info about the program. I am starting mine coming July and wondered if I have to move to the state that it's not accredited/ approved with chamberlain what will happen? Do you have any idea?

Hi! Can anyone tell me how long it took from Applying to acceptance? I received an ID but not sure if that means I'm in. Thanks!!

I'm in the program now, about to start clinicals in September. People around me are putting this program down, they don't seem to think that it is a "real degree" with "good education". I need to hear from graduates of this program: How did it go with the board exams? And how is the job hunt with showing a degree from this school? What kind of jobs did you get so far?

I need some help here so I can show people that this program is legit!

Hi! I am currently an FNP student at CCN. My immersion weekend is in 2 weeks time. However....my preceptor backed out for the September session and I am having a horrible time finding a new one. I am in Orlando FL, can anyone help??

Hello,

Will be graduating next year 2018, I was wondering why they do not accommodate the MSN program graduate GPA to at least 3.7 to get distinctions instead of 3.85, we are mostly full time nurses trying to do it all!

I hope you find one because I know how hard it is ...so you are in my class , class 2018?

You have 125 clinical hours in each of the last 5 classes for a total of 625 clinical hours. Each class is 8 weeks in length, so you really only have 7 weeks to get the 125 hours completed. If you do 18 hours per week for 7 weeks, you'll have 126 hours, which works out perfectly well. You can choose how you split up the hours during the week. I'm either going to do three 6 hour days or two 9 hour days. Just depends on which option works best for my preceptor.

Good luck :)

There are quite a few FB groups devoted to Chamberlain NP students. The vast majority pass boards on the first try. They prep you well for boards from what I've heard from students who have already passed boards.

As far as the school being "legit": it is CCNE & HLN accredited, which is the *same* accreditation that the brick and mortar schools have. Chamberlain used to be Deaconess Nursing College, which started back in the 1880s. It became Chamberlain in the 1970s and then DeVry bought out the college in the early 2000s. So, the school itself has been in existence for over 125 years.

Even the brick & mortar schools present the didactic in online format, so people looking down their noses at the school because it is online need to get over themselves. All of the instructors in the FNP program have a DNP or Phd. All of them are licensed NPs with years of experience.

Before you start clinicals, you go to Immersion Weekend where you get checked off on your clinical assessment skills. It's held in Chicago at the end of Advanced Assessment. Even Yale's NP program is online with clinical check offs. (But Chamberlain is about $35k and Yale is $98k)

Every FNP student I've talked to either had a job already lined up before graduating or was able to get hired shortly after graduating.

There definitely are some sketchy online schools out there, but Chamberlain is not one of them. The snooty perception of "online" schools needs to stop. I can't justify paying thousands of dollars more to a brick & mortar school to get the same exact education just to have a famous name stamped on my degree.

Looking for some help with Patho. What is the best way to study for the quizzes and midterm and final exam?

I will be starting the MSN FNP program this October 2017. Is there anyone else who will be starting during that time? Or does anyone else have any advice for me? :)

Hi Everyone!! Congratulations to everyone who has completed the program or who is getting ready to start. I am currently in Advanced Pharmacology, I will be doing Advanced Physical Assessment next semester. I graduate October 2018!!! I was wondering if anyone who has already taken Advanced Physical Assessment could tell me what assignments are due week 4 or if you have a syllabus if you could email it to me I would really appreciate it. Thank you in advance!!
