FNP Graduate from Chamberlain College of Nursing Dec 2015

Published

I'm a family nurse practitioner and graduated from Chamberlain College of Nursing's FNP program as of December 2015.

Lately I have been getting a lot of questions from nurses either looking to start Chamberlains FNP program or who are in the program.

I decided that I would create a blog to address these questions. Feel free to ask me anything about Chamberlain's FNP program.

Hi I have a personal question about assessment. How can I contact you?

Hi,

I am currently in the MSN-FNP Program at Chamberlain. I wanted to ask you questions about doubling up courses. I know that once I get to clinicals I will not be able to work full-time and take these classes. I have doubled up to this point and was curious if you could give me some advice on which classes I should double up on? I have patho, pharm, and health assessment left. I plan to take one of these classes alone and the other two together. I am aware it will be A LOT of work, but just curious out of those three what would be the best two to group together.

Thanks,

Amber

Hi. My name is Amber, I am in the last 4 weeks of NR 661. Was curious how the exit exam was. Is it anything like all of the Qbank questions?

Hi,

Thank you for sharing all the informative information! I was also wondering about doubling up classes. I registered for advanced patho and epidemiology, do you think that is doable? I read about the quizzes and case studies you take for advanced patho, but how is it for epidemiology? I wish our preview week was more than a week before class starts, I think it would help a lot of us out to get more organized!

thanks

I just want to say thank you for providing this information. I love the details and thorough explainations. Your blog is very informative.

Hi ChamberlainFNP 2015,

First, thank you for the wealth of information. I am interested in MSN education and probably do a post graduate FNP in the near future. So far, some of my questions have been answered since I reviewed this very informational thread. Does chamberlain have a learning center( where they can review research papers)? Do you know anyone in the MSN education program? If so, how do the like the program?

Thank you in advance

I'm in the RN-to-BSN track, but I can vouch that they do have a writing resource center where someone can review/critique your work. You would need to get your paper completed well before the due date, since most courses have papers due on Week 4. You also use a program called "Turn It In" that scans your APA paper and compares it to published works for plaigiarism.

I can't speak to the MSN level courses, but the BSN courses have been well-organized and easy to follow. Good luck :D

Hi, gmjohnson6! I am currently in the FNP program at CCN. I have completed core classes, and about to start the fourth FNP course before practicum courses. The courses do not have lectures but have lessons that you can listen/read too. Some of the e-books have links that have videos for certain topics I have noticed as well. Most teachers follow the rubric very well in my experience, but I have heard stories of others not or adding requirements. The discussions are set up as case scenarios once you reach the FNP courses of real-world situations. In patho we were presented a patient and had to list differentials, explain patho, epidemiology, and explained how each differential could be a possibility or was a least likely possibility. My opinion of on-line schools is it is what you put into it.

gmjohnson6,

There is some lecture material in the FNP portion of the program but you will learn more from reading the assigned reading and completing the discussion boards. As with any online program it is self paced meaning you have to hold yourself accountable for learning the material and putting in the work. The work you put in is a reflection of how much you learn. I feel I did learn a lot in the FNP part because I read the material, studied, and did the homework assignments. Also clinical helps in this process to put it all together. There are no videos of the lectures and no face to face interaction with the teacher, but sometimes there are videos to watch regarding how to do a certain assessment etc that help. Again I cannot emphasize enough that this is an online program where you learn from reading and retaining the material and apply it during clinicals and learn from your clinical preceptors. I hope this helps.

nurse. Christine,

You find your clinical sites for chamberlain and they do not have to be very general. They do not even require you to do an ob/gyn clinical for the family nurse practitioner program. You just need to find willing preceptors who have time to do clinical. I would recommend for your first clinical to do something general like family medicine and then from there you can do specialty areas.

amberbuehner,

I doubled up on my classes as well. You have two very difficult classes like patho and pharm left. I would recommend doing pharm by itself and doubling up on health assessment (which is very easy) and patho. It will def. be a lot of work, but it will be worth it to graduate 8 weeks sooner. That was my mentality about it at least. Good luck!

aschnable,

The exit examination for NR 661 is like the Qbank questions but to me it was harder. I believe you have 3 hours to complete the exit exam. Remember if you do not pass it you get a second chance and if you still do not pass it then you have to pay for a third chance. If you fail all 3 attempts you have to re-do the class and pay for it again. For me I found the exit exam to be much harder then the actual FNP APN (AANP) certification exam.
