  1. I have 5 years of experience as a FNP in a family practice clinic. I love teaching and educating nurse practitioner students and fellow nurse practitioners. I created a Youtube channel to help guide nps with EPIC/charting, ordering tests, diagnosing, managing, and treating common medical issues you would see in family practice. I hope you all find it helpful. You can check out my Youtube channel at the link below. https://Youtube.com/channel/UCTcKuCXL8WkfSSolkj_ILug
  2. I created a Youtube channel to help family nurse practitioners. It's called "how to be a family nurse practitioner". Check it out. https://Youtube.com/channel/UCTcKuCXL8WkfSSolkj_ILug
  3. FNPCC2019, The first class at Chamberlain they go over APA as well as require an APA format book you can purchase to help you. All the scholarly articles available at the chamberlain library have a link that will put the information for you into APA format so you just can copy and past that into the reference sections for all your papers and discussion boards. I also recommend using Purdue owl at Purdue OWL: APA Formatting and Style Guide to help you with APA format if you need it.
  4. Haze03, I appreciate your feedback. I think that advanced patho and epidemiology is doable. I know someone in the program currently who finished epidemiology and was asking for advice about class materials and they have changed that course a lot from when I first took it. Although from what she said the class was easy. You still have to write several papers with the last paper about an evaluation of an epidemiological problem- a disease or health population chosen. You also have to do a relative risk calculation worksheet. Some classes let you see all the material during preview week and others only let you see one week. I liked when the material was all up front because I would crack down and try to do all 8 weeks of work during preview week. (I realize this is crazy lol). This was especially nice when I doubled up on classes because one class would be finished and then I would have time to focus on the other.
  5. bimpeadebayo, I'm sorry but the only way to contact me is through this site.
  6. FDM1220, That's great you started at Chamberlain! I graduated chamberlain December 2015 and love being a family nurse practitioner. I have learned so much in the past 7 months of working full time. It is def. an adjustment from being a RN (where you do not make any medical decisions) but I love having the autonomy and caring for my patients the way I feel they should be treated. At first it was a huge responsibility and I did not feel very confident about my medical decisions but with time I have seen my confidence grow as I have become more knowledgeable and skilled. I can equate starting as a FNP like starting out as a RN. School only prepares you so much and your real skills and knowledge come from experience and practice.
  7. RN-BSN 2011, I would contact chamberlain to see if they have a learning center that reviews research papers as I'm not sure if they have one for the MSN program. I would also follow SopranoKris advice reply. Chamberlain does use "turn it in" to see how much of your paper is plagiarized but it does not critique how well you have written. Unfortunately I do no know anyone in the MSN education program. I'm sorry, I wish I could be more helpful.
  8. aschnable, The exit examination for NR 661 is like the Qbank questions but to me it was harder. I believe you have 3 hours to complete the exit exam. Remember if you do not pass it you get a second chance and if you still do not pass it then you have to pay for a third chance. If you fail all 3 attempts you have to re-do the class and pay for it again. For me I found the exit exam to be much harder then the actual FNP APN (AANP) certification exam.
  9. amberbuehner, I doubled up on my classes as well. You have two very difficult classes like patho and pharm left. I would recommend doing pharm by itself and doubling up on health assessment (which is very easy) and patho. It will def. be a lot of work, but it will be worth it to graduate 8 weeks sooner. That was my mentality about it at least. Good luck!
  10. nurse. Christine, You find your clinical sites for chamberlain and they do not have to be very general. They do not even require you to do an ob/gyn clinical for the family nurse practitioner program. You just need to find willing preceptors who have time to do clinical. I would recommend for your first clinical to do something general like family medicine and then from there you can do specialty areas.
  11. gmjohnson6, There is some lecture material in the FNP portion of the program but you will learn more from reading the assigned reading and completing the discussion boards. As with any online program it is self paced meaning you have to hold yourself accountable for learning the material and putting in the work. The work you put in is a reflection of how much you learn. I feel I did learn a lot in the FNP part because I read the material, studied, and did the homework assignments. Also clinical helps in this process to put it all together. There are no videos of the lectures and no face to face interaction with the teacher, but sometimes there are videos to watch regarding how to do a certain assessment etc that help. Again I cannot emphasize enough that this is an online program where you learn from reading and retaining the material and apply it during clinicals and learn from your clinical preceptors. I hope this helps.
  12. SopranoKris, I'm so happy that sharing my experiences is helping so many others. That's great you've decided to continue on with school and obtain your FNP degree! It's also good that you found out early that your hospital also requires an ACNP to work in the ER. I wish you the best of luck!
  13. emiliaBSNRN, Unfortunately I did not save any of my syllabus's from any of my chamberlain classes. I think it is great you are using preview week to get ahead of the school work. This is a great practice that will serve a lot of benefit when you start the FNP track.
  14. mta0709, Your SOAP notes from previous FNP track classes serve as part of the case studies for the capstone project. You pick out what you determine to be your best SOAP notes and submit those. You do not need to make new SOAP notes for the capstone project.
  15. Mta0709, The case studies are not technically research papers, but they can feel like doing a research paper. Each week, during the FNP track classes, you are presented with either 1 patient or several patients with a complaint(s) in which you need to complete a SOAP note for: can refer to previous post about SOAP note format. The subjective information as well as the complete physical and sometimes lab work are given to you, however, you need to research (evidence based practice-using scholarly references) diagnoses, additional testing you would perform, treatment plan, education, and follow up for each patient's presenting issues. Each section needs to have scholarly references (not including textbook) that support your data. At the end of your SOAP note you have to include a reference page. It can be very time consuming to complete SOAP notes during the FNP track. I would recommend using preview week to get started. Good luck!
