I am contracted for 187 days of work with an option to renew the contract each May. I sign something but in reality I have until July 15-ish to decide I don't want to return. My first day back in the new school year is contractually obligated and set by district policy. I choose to be paid in 12 month installments (instead of the approximately 10 months that is 187 school days). But my contract this year runs July 31 until May 29. My new contract won't start again until July or August of 2020.
If you could work for one or two days before school starts (before the kids get there, when you could have the bebe with you) it may be beneficial.
All that to say - it may not be as simple as just FMLA-ing in August at the start of school, and only HR can say. But I hope it won't be a problem and I wish you the best!!

Just randomly thinking, what if somebody gives birth a month before school starts but still wants to go on maternity leave or FMLA?
Does it still count even if you don't give birth during the actual school year.
Have any of you done this? For example, give birth in July, but still want to take a few weeks of during the school year since it starts in August or so?
If I'm making any sense ?
