Just randomly thinking, what if somebody gives birth a month before school starts but still wants to go on maternity leave or FMLA?
Does it still count even if you don't give birth during the actual school year.
Have any of you done this? For example, give birth in July, but still want to take a few weeks of during the school year since it starts in August or so?
If I'm making any sense ?

Congrats! I am just getting back from maternity leave. My little guy was due on August 1 however I ended up having him July 14. I had planned on taking 13 weeks from my due date which put me back Nov 4. When I had him early I stuck with my plan and ended up taking 16 weeks. At my school I was told that my FMLA would have started when we were due back to school (last week of August) since that is my contracted start date. So all of that being said, I could have stayed out longer but wouldn't have been paid for all that time.
I was initially very stressed about being out for first 2 months of the year since it is the busiest time. I spent the majority of the spring prepping for my long term sub and I honestly had an amazing one. She went above and beyond. Let me know if you have any questions since I have just gone through this!

Thank you so much for making yourself available. I want to take as much time off as we can afford with this baby. Last pregnancy most of the time I took off was not paid, this time I have more sick days and I think I'm gong to apply for long term disability which will cover about 60% of my pay according to HR. I will definitely reach out if I need to. Thank you! Congrats on your little one by the way ?
