Flu shot for nursing school

So... I didn't get the flu shot for 2016 and it's a requirement for nursing school which starts this august. Will that be a problem? I'm freaking out because no one is answering the phone in my school's nursing department >.

i have no problem getting the flu shot. I don't know why I didn't get it last year......

2016-2017 Flu season is over. You can't get a current vaccine for influenza in July. There are no vaccines available that are not expired by now (6/30/17 exp). Can't do what is impossible, right? As soon as the new season's vaccines come out, get one! Problem solved.

Ah good to know. I just assumed that they were available until the next round. Now my answer looks quite silly.

Nah, no one knows everything! It's always good to pick up something new :-)

My school required it during clinical because the hospitals required it. You are probably fine as long as you get it this fall. However, your school could be different. You will have to check with them.

Yes I agree with you! I find out tomorrow, but I heard it shouldn't be a problem bc I can update my immunizations until 2nd week of September, and flu shots are normally given during the last week of august.

Ok, I was told it shouldn't be a problem.

I panicked because we have a document that is needed to be submitted by the end of July and it says there to put the date of when I received the flu shot within 1 year. lol thank you guys

You're fine (I would imagine). It's not flu season. Just go get one as soon as Walgreens starts offering them in the fall semester. I was able to get free flu shots at the hospitals I did clinical at too.

Specializes in CVICU, CCRN.

That's no problem. Do not worry. The school should understand that doctors, cvs, Walgreens only administer these vaccines during flu season. Flu season is during the fall. Once September/October rolls around get the vaccine and then quickly send your paperwork to the Health Services of your school. I did that every year for school and everyone else did as well.

Make sure you get in contact with someone from the nursing department and explain your situation!! It seems like a little thing but if they say you need it, and you don't have one of the requirements, it is grounds to kick you out (and my program will find any reason to kick someone out because it is super competitive and there are people lined up for a spot).

Just do what you can to speak with someone, and if you can wait to get the flu shot get it in writing.

Usually, they will have you to just get when the flu shots are available which is usually around October.

Thank you, yes, I have contacted them and they told me that it's fine. And to make sure I get the shot this September. Thank you!
