I just graduated from the LPN program on May 2nd and YES it is very very expensive but it gives you a very good base especially if you are planning on going on to get your RN. I do have to say that their interaction with the students is VERY POOR to say the least which is why only a handfull of the graduating class are returning for their RN. Having to pay almost 25 grand for RN school is tough to swallow, knowing that they are still not accredited is another issue but couple that with dealing with extremely DISRESPECTFUL administrative staff and it is just not worth it.

The new RN class that started in mid May was full but by the time they actually started classes only half of us showed up and after a week a few more dropped out and opted to go to a dfferent school. The majority of the graduating class are actually enrolled at SPC for the Fall transition program and the remainder are going to enroll for the Spring program at SPC.

You learn quickly at Galen to keep your mouth zipped and not say anything to administration eventhough they are completely wrong in regards to any situaion because they will make the rest of your stay there a living hell.

I still have lots of friend there that have not yet graduated and they say it is getting worse each day and they can't wait to graduate and NEVER return back to Galen. This is a shame as Galen has a very good program but I think they forgot that for the school to continue to flourish they need students to attend and referals go a long way.

To make matters worse we walked down the graduation line without our diplomas because they claimed the company mailed out the wrong ones. We were promised that we would receive our diplomas within two weeks but guess what? to date we DO NOT have our diplomas and as of this week they don't know when we will get them.

I took my NCLEX PN boards yesterday and found out today that I PASSED!!!!:yeah:

GOOD LUCK TO ALL

Congrats:yeah:

I graduated from keiser last year and every Galen student I met was very nice and very competent in clinicals. Unfortunately this is not the same case with other local schools. Their education seems to be top notch from what I have seen.

I know of a number of people that were fairly arbitrarily thrown out of the program. Their grades were good but the staff had "issues" with some aspect of their personality, or their choice of friends. These same students whose grades were good then were saddled with no credits that transferred, high student loans and no recourse. I would advise people to think very carefully before subjecting themselves to this experience.

Very true is all I can say..I am still in the lpn program and made the mistake of inquiring about how my grade on a test went from an A to a low C when we actually graded them in class and I had an A. The answer I was given was that the instructor accidentally put RN questions on the test, and later had to throw them out, giving some students points for those questions when they got them wrong, and for the students that got them right, they lost those points, thereby lowering their grade.:banghead:

Shortly after that I had to go into the office for a badge and was called a "trouble maker" by another staff member..all because I inquired about something? There have been a few more "incidents" with staff and lack of respect issues since then, making my life there very difficult.:crying2:. Without going into more detail, all I can say is I cannot wait until I graduate, I had planned on going through the RN there, but no way will I go now...I'll be heading over to SPC for the RN. I cannot wait to get away from Galen, and am very sorry I chose to attend a school that has no respect for their students, not to mention some (not all, but some) very vengeful staff members. The best advice to those going there, is like what was already said; keep your mouth zipped, and do the best you can to get through it all. I am sorry this all seems a negative post, but this is how I truly feel. :twocents:

I went there for a month. The director (looks like and evil bulldog) called me a liar. I spent two years previously at USF and had never been treated so disrespectfully by anyone. The teachers were Ok but frequently yelled at people and acted unprofessional. I didn't trust them. Before I gave a written notice of withdrawl, I cancelled my student loans(through the lenders, not the school). The administration was furious, but did cash my

$4000 pell grant. I only went 1 month and they are not entitled that much, I'm working on reporting them. All in all, I think their school is a huge rip off (you should see the 1986 computers we used). I would rather be shot than ever go back there.

I am so confused and need advice. Just got admission to Galen and at first, I was so excited, but after thinking over it a couple of times, I wonder......is becoming an LPN really worth $15,000.....and if I do end up following up to become an RN..........I would be in debt $35,000 approximately(and it's not even a University degree!). I've read so much from u guys that have gone there, scared that if I plan to get my BSN, my credits won't transfer, attitude of the lecturers etc. Most of all, if I end up not going and change my mind, would they still accept me?

On the other hand, I don't have all my pre-reqs and I really want to get something done this year. What should I do?

P.S. I also have a flair for Information Technology and thinking of doing one of the short 3 month courses and hopefully get a job that will pay upward of $50,0000...........clueless on what to do and don't want to do something that I'll regret later! Pls advise:confused:

There is a big difference between IT and nursing. You must love to work directly with people to be a good nurse. There are a lot of nurses out there that just want a job. If that's your goal then go into IT.

What kind of course is it and hwere exactly? I'd like to know what kind of job that is, cause shoot if it was that easy.....everybody would be doing it.

Let me know....

Why dont you apply to PTEC (Pinellas Tech). St pete campus doesnt have a waiting list but there is an admissions process. You dont need pre-reqs just pas the two entrance tests. Tuition, books, and fees come up to about 5000 for the LPN. Then you can transfer to SPC or another RN bridge. There is also Clearwater campus who uses a waiting list. Just saying there are other options. I looked into Galen, but decided convenience wasnt worth the rediculous fees.

While there is no "wait list" at ptec it is ridiculously competitive to get into AND they only accept like 2 classes a year. So while there is no "wait list" it is still hard to get into-- NOT easy if you do not already have a medical background

Yes they are going to a more competetive format and they did mention that they are thinking about having only two classes a year. But, they have not done this yet. As it stands they still have plans to have classes every 9 weeks into May (see myptec.org). This of course my change, but they have not made a definite decision as to when they will decrease enrollment. Also while getting in will be more challenging since they are doing away with the "first come first serve method" it is still worth a try. Thankfully I just received a letter of acceptance yesterday and unfortunately Galen is not an option for me since i dont qualify for Financial Aid and have to pay for school out of pocket.

I was doing a search on Galen and came across this thread. I actually go to Galen in Louisville, Ky. As for continuing on for the BSN, I know that here in KY the school has partnered up with other schools around here to go on for the BSN. No repeating classes or anything. This just started so maybe they did this recently at your campus to.

I attended Galen for my LPN and the 1st RN class. I loved it. The work was very difficult, but the classes small, the teachers very approachable. Yes it was very expensive, but I paid for it without any loans or grants. I got the 1st job I applied for. I had a 4.0 for LPN and a 3.7 for RN while working. I either worked or attended school every day of the week. It took me 1 year for LPN and 1 year for RN with no long waiting list. Their pass rate is high . I passed both boards on my first try. Their dress code and attendance policies and grades are demanding. I woulfd recomend them highly.
