Is there anyone attending galen Health Institutes?
How do/did you like it?
Do you think they are too strict?
Erwin and Brewster Tech both have matriculatin agreements with HCC and they will take you into their LPN transition program from either school. If you did your LPN program at any other school, you have to have 6mths working experience to get into Hillsborough Community College's transition program. Erwin/Brewster is only $3300-$3900 for the entire program but I do know you may have to wait up to a year for erwin. They have 3 entrance dates,Aug, Jan, March and almost everyone is accepted but it is based on a lottery....depends what number the computer assigns you.
Greeting fellow posters!!
I will be a FULL TIME college student at Galen College. I chose them because there was no waiting list or Difficult to pass Pre-Reqs. You know at a few of the Community Colleges(they shall remain nameless), if you are an LPN, you must take anywhere from 6 to 11 Pre-Reqs. Depending on how well you do in each of them, you get the opportunity to take an Entrance Exam, often the highly competetive Hessi test. Then, depending on your score, you get assigned a number, if it comes up, then you are in, if not, better luck next year.
I could not wait on someone to decide if I could attend their school or not. Most schools only accept the better of the best to impress the Board of Directors, Investors or increase their pass rates.
I did some "LQQKIN" and I found that University of Phoenix accepts ALL credits from Galen. I sent them a course description with all outlined classes, and within 24 hours, they told me they would all transfer "IN WRITING". I then took my newfound information to The University of Florida (Go Gators) and they told me that if I obtained a BSN through U of Phoenix, my credits would apply towards my MSN degree.
Now, by the time that waiting list selects me, I will be well on my way to my BSN. As for the costs, did you know that if you work for a Public sector such as a Health Dept, VA, Prison, or County Jail or School, you can have some of your student loans forgiven? http://www.nslfp.com/
Ok, now you have no waiting list at Galen, University of Phoenix says "Come on in for your BSN", and you have someone to help you pay most of it back. Aint life grand?
Kisses to ya!
I am hoping to attend Galen in the evening starting in June. I too am attending Galen because of the waiting lists everywhere else and not on only the wait but Galen is convienent to travel to right after work. I have to attend now so I can get some sort of Grants for being a single mother. My daughter turns 16 in June so my time is running out. After my LPN school that will take 18 months, I need to jump right into Galen's RN class so I can get any last minute grants before my daughter turns 18.
Hi RN2BKD - I promised to get back with you after I had my info session at Galen today. An instructor talked about how to fill the application out, when classes start throughout the next year, day and evening times, costs, fees, entrance exam, etc. It all took 20-30 mins. It was me and another woman. She was an LPN going for her RN. She did not get her LPN through Galen but said that to obtain it, it was not hard, just need to know time management. I will try to take my entrance exam next week then right after that (if I pass) they will interview me the same day. Then it takes a week for them to determine if you are accepted or not. It's a private school so they cannot just take anyone who walks through the door. They want to make sure that the person is ready for this. Just a heads up, he also gave me a website to practice the math exam portion of the test which is math.com. I will keep you posted!
what was Galen's entrance test like, was it hard, and what was the required score....please give me some details on thatThanks
sorry - the required score...minumun score is 162 and max is 204. They would like you to get at least 170 or higher. 20+ of these points are from the reading portion. It's a 1 hr test on paper.
I was doing a search on Galen and came across this thread. I actually go to Galen in Louisville, Ky. As for continuing on for the BSN, I know that here in KY the school has partnered up with other schools around here to go on for the BSN. No repeating classes or anything. This just started so maybe they did this recently at your campus to.
What schools in Ky can you transfer to to get the BSN. Just curious because I plan on doing the LPN-RN bridge at Galen, and would eventually like to get my BSN. I'm currently getting my LPN at Spencerian, and with all the negative things I have heard about their RN program, I will be going to Galen next year.

You can always do your LPN at Galen and then do your LPN to RN Bridge at St Pete College, so that you can then move on to USF, UCF or UT for your BSN. I called St. Petersburg College and spoke to the Nursing Program Director. They are just looking at your valid LPN license in this case. I am almost positive that this is true for Hillsborough Community College. Erwin isn't regionally accredited! If you really are concerned, just pick up the phone and ask someone at HCC, St Pete College or any other school you are looking to transfer to. You can attend Galen and still go for your BSN. Just do Galen: LPN, Community or Junior College: LPN to RN and 4 Year University: BSN. If you really want to know, just ask them.
