Florida has nearly all ballots counted on Election Day, while California can take weeks. This is why

The gap is a natural result of election officials choosing to emphasize different concerns and priorities.

Unlike Florida, PA Republican legislators did not allow mail-in ballots to be opened and processed prior to 7AM election day when mail-in ballot expansion permitted in 2020.

They needed a ID to register and the first time they voted.  So, why not whenI they vote thereafter?

Because when I check in to vote or use a write-in ballot, my signature is checked before I receive a ballot at the polls .  My signature is provided to the person counting absentee ballots .  If I am already registered, why do I have to produce ID again?  They have every signature I've used to sign in for previous elections in front of their faces.  I haven't seen any credible evidence that people are allowed to register to vote without ID.

My friend moved from VA back to PA 3 weeks ago.  I've driven her to our PA license center THREE times: 1st didn't have proof address; 2nd: needed TWO proof of address; 3rd: VA photo ID and birth certificate did not match her social security -which had divorce name --frustrated as hell.  SO unable to get PA ID and get registered to vote.  So, PA doing bangup job with verifying ID....as I'm certain other states doing.

You're describing a problem getting her ID.  Not registering to vote.

Obvious to anyone, it's much easier, efficient, and less room for error to check and ID vs comparing signatures.

Wrong: Need PA ID in order to vote first time at a polling place as she doesn't have any of the following as was living with family unpaid caring for grandchild, brother with terminal cancer then mother with dementia. Exhausted savings, no income, no bank account. Staying with my extended family -- air mattress in dining room.  BUT born in PA and citizen so has RIGHT to VOTE -- one of the thousands citizens without these IDs.

You should have consulted me as I would have saved you a few trips AND you woukd have got her registered.

If she does have the right to vote she only has to take a few small steps to prove it.

She probably shouldn't have waited to the last minute to try to register as today was the last day to do so.  That's a shame. ☹️

Did she get a mail-in ballot from VA?

My Alaska voter registration ID, that I present to vote, doesn't have a photo on it.

Yes.  And TSA and places to buy beer are racist for requiring IDs.

My precinct is interesting in that almost all but 11 of the registered republicans are white.  The white black Democrats are about 100 more white democrats than black.  My district is very racially mixed but not a lot of Hispanics.  When I voted, she looked at my ID asked if my address is still current, and I had to sign in and she matched the signature I used to the one on my ID and I got through.  I'm sure there also was some computer matchup going on as well.   I think this is a safe and effective way.  I've never heard of the black people here complaining about us having to use an ID because I guess it's always been that way.  We are a middle class district.  (In fact the bluest district in the county which is why we were gerrymandered out of the county).

I also don't hear of any issues in the poorer black neighborhoods about IDs.  They seem to be able to navigate getting assistance and photo IDs very easily.  It's not that hard.

As I've always said if I thought that Republicans were truly concerned about voter integrity and not making it more difficult for their own agenda then I wouldn't be bothered.  Republicans also fear monger "illegal aliens are voting in large numbers!".  But on a scale of 1 to 10, I'm bothered a 0 by requiring a picture ID and signature to vote.

All my friends that voted by mail have gone to the website and their vote recorded. I don't know what the point is waiting until Election Day to count the votes of people that voted early.

Think about it.  If a candidate were ahead, he couldn't collect more donations because everyone would assume that person has it in the bag.  I delected my Act Blue account today and feel so liberated from the spam I received every day that had to be deleted.  Let's hope that the election also goes in the favor of good rather than evil.

.The candidates here, even though millions of votes have been counted and recorded, have no idea how they are doing.  They only rely on polls.
