have you tried for an academic scholarship or maybe the nursing department has nursing scholarships. ask in person.

Is the LPN program at a tech school? Most tech schools I've heard of down in Florida usually have a childcare class. And how do you learn childcare?? WITH CHILDREN! tah-dah! =)They usually offer free childcare, or way-reduced childcare for students. Maybe your school doesn't have that, but another one may. Three or four people in our class have young kids that go to the childcare program. Teachers, students...plenty of people to look after the young ones.

I'm working full time through LPN school right now as well. 48 hours actually. Monday-Thursday nights 7p-7a I've been a CNA for 3 years now. But my agency got me in with a KILLER client. She's a home care case, so we can sleep there. I've done a 48 hour shift there one weekend..lol So with the option of being able to sleep and get paid for it....=0) I go in at 7, help her get ready for bed, when she goes to bed, I study for a few hours, and then I lay down. Of course, if she calls and needs help, I have to get up...but usually I can get a good 4-5 hours of REAL sleep while I'm there. I consider myself VERY lucky that I have that opportunity to do that...hopefully you could find something like that too.

My LPN school didn't take student loans either, but I did get Pell grants, also we have a program in Arkansas (use to be called Workforce, also Manpower), that actually paid for all my LPN school, and I got to live on my Pell Grant. I also worked everyother weekend as a tech at our local hospital which brought in about $115.00 for 2 days work. See if your state has a program like this. Good Luck

Hi, I don't mean to sound "stupid"but, what exactly is a "tech" & what are you job duties? Possibly different states use different terms ??? Let me know, I'v been looking for a "job" while in LPN school..I never was a cna so I don't know what else I can do. thanks so much.

I got a scholarship through the workforce development center called the ' Adult workers program." If your hubby works and you have 3 kids, you would probably qualify, although I don't know if this is offered in every state. It pays for tuition, books and some child care or milage.

I know some states have aid for child care. It is either discounted or free. If your classes will transfer, maybe look into other schools with the same program. Usually state schools offer aid either loans or grants. You would be surprised at what you might qualify for. Don't give up, somehow it works out in the end. :)

Are you going to a private or state school? Most state tech schools offer some type of aid programs. Just a thought.

fafsa, pfftt... good luck. we have a family of 6, and i won't be getting any aid next semester. 4 kids or not. i think it stinks. my dh is also the only one working, we have to pay close to 500 if not over a month for gas and daycare for my little one.

Just commiserating with you! I go to a Technical College and they don't participate in loans either. A good friend used to work in the FA office there several years ago and told me it's bc it's too much work for them to process considering that the majority of their students get enough Pell and Lottery Tuition assistance to cover everything. :rolleyes: Well that's great for them - what about the rest of us???

I also have to say that I was shocked with how little I got from FAFSA. I think the majority of the Aid that comes from that resource is in the form of Federal Student Loans. Pell doesn't cover much even with the fact that we have three kids and my DH pays out 25% of his paltry income in child support for his 10 yo son.

I have gotten some good ideas here though - thanks everyone.
