What general discussion topic on allnurses do you get the most annoyed at?

For example: My pet-peeve is the "I hate working the floor. What cushy nursing jobs are there that do not require any real work?"

How would you like to respond to these topics?

For example: I would like to respond "Quit being lazy, put your time in, and develop into a stronger nurse before venturing out."

Without being specific enough to identify anyone, please contribute with your thoughts about topics that annoy you the most.

Please do not insult, demean, or disparage anyone. After all- at allnurses we are allfriends.

That one had axis 2 written all aver it.

As a CNA that works in home care I really don't like those that complain about the household chores that come with the job. They say I didn't take my CNA to clean bathrooms. I'm wasting my education.

Or CNA that dont know why they can't walk off the street and get a CNA job in a hospital and spend months only applying for hospitals and when you ask where else are they applying and they answer They won't even consider a ltc. They can't work with the elderly. They just HAVE to work in a hospital and no other job will do. Mind you there classes are structured to working in a ltc but its not for them.

I think I'd be upset, too. Hire a maid if you want someone to clean your house.

This I'll agree with. And these are the ones who don't realize that the CNA certification is only legally required in a skilled nursing setting. The hospital I worked at could care less if their NAs where CNAs or not.

That's the problem with homecare gigs. "Would you mind doing the dishes before you go? was what a friend was asked after she did a wound vac change.

Then they sure wouldn't like MY answer, which is that I am a highly-educated Boo-Boo Kisser (playground inside joke, as the RN/Mom scooping up whatever injured rugrat needed it!).

I sure didn't need my education to do the first run-through of cleanup in the hospital room's bathroom BEFORE housekeeping gets there to do the disinfection, if it's a two-person room and the bathroom was just 'under attack'. Just came with the job.

So...expecting the aid to clean up the family's messes? NO WAY. But expecting them to clean up the areas that the CLIENT messes? Yep. Paid for that myself, with an outside agency taking care of a family member. They did not do the family laundry, or cleaning, or dishes, etc...but they sure as heck did clean up the dishes/laundry/cleaning for my relative, for whom they were PAID to take such care.

Yes exactly. As a home care aide it is part of the job to take care of the house but it is not extreme as cleaning kids rooms and mowing yards. We do light work as in vac. Dusting laundry dishes. You can't expect to be taking care of a dear old lady of 90 and expect her to clean her own tub after you gave her a shower. Or make her lunch but say you wont do her dishes because it was not in my CNA taining. Light house cleaning is part of being a home aide. Its in job description as well as part if the care plan.

Some days I WISH that my job entailed light housework instead of what I was REALLY doing! :D

I like tone deaf posts such as: everyone I work with is awful. I refuse to ask for help but get upset when no one helps me. I didn't bother to get to know anyone or act friendly, they should be nice just because I am so great. I feel entitled to a successful career without investing in my education, I don't know why everything isn't handed to me. I'm too good to work in an LTC, I hate working with the elderly. I hate being a nurse because it isn't as perfect as I imagined and no one gives me pats on the back just for showing up every day (except when it snows or I already have vacation planned, LOL!) I didn't go to school for 2-4 years to clean up poop, even though I appear to have scraped through clinicals somehow! I don't get why everything just doesn't always work out for me!!!

Yes indeed my home care job is a cake walk to any RNs job I'm sure. But I still feel that my job has value, and I usually love what l do.

mvm2 I'm a home care nurse. My CNAs are a very valuable member of the team caring for our patients. My CNAs help with bathing and some light house keeping, but they have also alerted me to abnormal vitals, or patient's not seeming right/normal for them. This helps me because then I can make a prn visit and do what I can do to keep our patients healthy and out of the hospital. Personal care including helping the patient with their home environment keeps them from pushing themselves too hard which may cause a worsening of condition for them. So you are absolutely right, you have GREAT value.
