Flagged FBI Report

Nurses Criminal

Published

Hey , PLEASE HELP . I recently got in to a nursing program and i did my background check and my FBI came back flagged . I know I don't have any felonies but i have have had traffic violation . I have legit paid all that i know of and i have served time for the tickets as well . 14 days to be exact . Ive had background checks done before and nothing has came up. My director told me dont worry because it happens a lot and it can just be something regarding traffic . but i seriously cant even focus because im waiting for the official copy to come in the mail . Thing is i cant start at any clinical sites until the director approves it and it takes 7-14 days to come i the mail and i start school on the 10th of this month . Have any of you been through this ? Please some advice to help me feel at ease.

I know a couple people who were stopped, had a bench warrant out for non-payemnt of traffic tickets and were arrested. It's not that unusual in states that still pursue to do this stupid practice. It's just a waste of resources to book the person. My one girlfriend told me she was stopped on a Friday and there was a holiday on Monday so she served 4 days. If that's all it is, than you're fine.

Who makes you do your own background check...my goodness have things changed. I see all kinds of things wrong with letting the person do their own background check. If you're good enough you can make your own background check.

Sometimes a little reassurance helps. However , if you cant that's fine . If you feel me asking after my PD told me not to worry is silly that's fine too , Let me take whatever i want from whomever i want . This , what i thought was a social site for nurses or nursing students . A little enlightenment was all i was asking for . If you cant give it , please excuse yourself . Thank You .

You have to be very thick-skinned to survive Nursing and, at times, this website. And it's not just for students, it's for all nurses.

Lots of folks are nice here usually, but some are very unfriendly. They seem to think everyone who asks a question is trying to get others to do their homework. They are often free and easy with some very cutting remarks. Let it roll right off.

Why not go to your local FBI office if there's one close to you and see if you can get the report any quicker. Or just explain to your PD what you said here. You didn't pay, it went to a warrant, your were arrested on the warrant, had the misfortune of not seeing a judge right away, judge gave you credit for time served, you've learned to never ignore tickets and you haven't had any more tickets since then ( if that's the case).

It's not realistic for you to expect reassurance from non-lawyers or from people who have nothing to do with your acceptance or rejection. But good luck.

Welcome to allnurses! The largest online community!

I am sorry you are experiencing stress from your criminal history report. Allnurses supports lively debates as long as the responses are constructive and polite. However we might not hear the responses we like but that does not mean they are being rude. If you feel someone is rude just report the post by using the little yellow triangle.

Now to your questions.....I can't really say it is going to be ok. Some programs have a problem with being incarcerated. You should also start now and speak with an attorney that knows about licensure issues and get your record expunged. I am confused about how many days you were incarcerated. In your first post you said

I have legit paid all that i know of and i have served time for the tickets as well . 14 days to be exact
Then you said
i was young and didnt care about the warrant and when I finally got pulled over they arrested me until i seen a judge which was like 3 days
Nurses are trained to look at situations and find irregularities....it's just what we do when caring for patients. I realize that you are not telling the whole story and that is ok. My advice is for you to seek the assistance of a lawyer and get these expunged. Even if the school accepts the FBI report....the Board of nursing may not.

Read this forum...there are many nurses that have needed legal assistance or talkk to someone who has been where you are now. This forum is monitored so you may see a delay in responses.

I wish you good luck!

I would be more worried about your personal information having been stolen and someone commiting federal crimes under your identity, or some such fraud. Please get your report and try to clear up things. You can always do clinicals later, but this kind of thing can ruin your life.

No infractions requires incarceration, what were the traffic tickets?

Sorry to be a downer, but ... It may not be up to the PD completely. Where I live, copies of students' background checks are provided to each clinical site so that THEY can determine who is allowed to come to their facility and who is not. If that is the case in your area, you PD can approve your entry into the program, but that doesn't mean all of the clinical sites will let you do your clinical practicums in their facility.

I recommend talking with an attorney and making sure you have all your documentation in order -- including being prepare to speak to your past poor judgment or write about it for review by the clinical facilities as part of their procedure for deciding whether you can go there or not.

Good luck to you.

You're screwed. Pick a professional not quite as upstanding. Just saying. If you legitimately are flagged by the FBI, there's more to what you're telling us...

People can be incarcerated for a short time for traffic citations. If you don't pay your citation the city can arrest & incarcerate for a short time. I've never seen longer than 2 weeks. Smaller cities make it part of the punishment in conjunction with the fine/ticket. Same if you fail to appear & a bench warrant is issued. So, it is something that happens often, at least in my state. OP's situation is something I've seen before many times.
