hi!

anyone up for swapping resumes for constructive criticism?

during my time in school i participated in many seminars to perfect resume writing and interviewing skills; which i am sure you did to! i was also a tutor for nursing students which i helped assist many students write their resumes and cover letters.

i thought this would be a great way to share ideas of what we learned and help each other make our resumes and cover letters stand out!

if you would like to participate pm me and i will give you my email address to swap resumes. please take off all identifying info (name, address, phone number) from your resume. i don't want o be responsible for it!

closing thread temp to address internet safety concerns:

we do not recommend sharing resumes with strangers. anyone could take your info and pose as imposter using your info, sell for personal contact info, recirculate on the web. if one decides to share at least remove personal info/address section etc.

do not post your email address in thread -moderators will remove. companies have software that crawls over websites searching for such info to sell.

c. reminder that anything one posts on a bulletin board is searchable on the internet...especially on a site such as ours that is google/yahoo indexed.

wondering why you can't get hired or promoted: resume + interview hints!

has sample resumes, interview questions, behavioural based interview ---includes how you can interview facility staff.

i've had 2 nursing positions in my office this year and received over 25 resumes from new grads each time. my biggest pet peeve: seeing students list student clinical rotations as clinical experience --not the same.

please list as clinical rotations completed. highlight at top any extra specialized rotation or non-paid nurse extern

under professional or work experience, list paid employment as nurse extern ---see examples in above link.

do list prior work experience for past 10 years. it's helpful for me to see that you worked at the piggly wiggley grocery store as cashier for 3/12 years ---shows job longevity ---you just might stay with me longer than 2 months and that you've interacted with public and probably can deal with irate customers. list any volunteer work as classroom mom, student tutor, boy scout leader --- shows well rounded. those that are really stuck, willing to review and add my :twocents:.

p.s.: make sure you have 1" margins on side!

Thanks for the post. I agree that is what I am looking for as well when I look at resumes. Clinical Rotations should be listed as such, they are not actual work experience. And so far, everybody has been great about removing their personal information from resumes. I agree, it is very important to play it safe on the net. You never know who is lurking out there. Be careful.

NRSKarenRN and tclema, thank you both for your insight. I'm formatting my resume and hoping one or both of you could offer your input. When I use 1" margins and size 12 font, my resume is two pages (I'm a second degree student - I was concise and only included relevant experience, but still needed page 2).

Is it acceptable for my resume to be two pages, or is it preferable to use a size 11 font and smaller side margins?

Any advice you have would be appreciated. Thanks.

Same here, I'll take a look at your resume if you want me too. I am a Recruiter and look at plenty of resumes every day. :)

Also (unless you want me to recruit you) please take off all your personal information from your resume.

I had my resume looked over once, but I def will be sending mine in a PM to u to have it looked at.

My main problem is cover letters! I see samples, but can't seem to find how to compile my personal experience together to even make half a page of a letter!

I don't have enough posts to pm, can Faith Love Hope send me a pm so I can email you my resume to look at.

Question: I'm a newly licensed LPN looking for a job. Next week I'm doing an IV cert course and then I'm doing ACLS. Will these help me find a job?

Also, is there a good resource for finding samples of new LPN cover letters? I suck at writing cover letters. Thanks

WOW this is a great thread that i just came across by!!!! Can someone please critique mines?!?!?! I have been applying to soooo many jobs... basically lost count and still haven't even landed an interview!!! How discouraging!!!! All i'm told is that i'm being "actively considered among others..." But anyways, I can't PM yet cuz i haven't reached the quota of posts....but i really need some constructive criticism. So anyone willing please holla so that we can somehow make this happen. THANKS!!!! Hope to hear from you guys soon!!!!

i'd love to have someone critique my resume as i am preparing to apply for my 1st lpn job. i'll look at your resume as well if you still need someone to look it over.

if anyone here is still up for swapping resumes please send me an email or pm me.

thank you in advance for offering this help. can't wait to hear from some of you.

i wish everyone the best of luck in your Job Search.

sincerely,
