Hello everyone,

I would like as many responses as possible. I am located in Houston, Texas but looking to working to work anywhere in the US. I am about to get my RN license and I have started looking for a job. What should I expect my salaray or my wage/hr at my first job as a RN with no experience? If people would tell me their personal pay they received at there first job would be helpful. I've researched the web and found just a scattered range of pays. Your responses will be very appreciated. Thanks!

My hubs is a born and bred Chicago boy. Getting him out of here will require an Act of God.

Ohio, rural area, LTC, PRN position, $27.50

metro Detroit, about $25/hr + shift diff. New grad, one year experience as an Extern at the hospital (not sure if that changed my starting wage).

In central CA, base pay about $30/hr ... weekends add $4.10/hr ...nights add $6.08 ...holiday pay add $23.75/hr.

In San Francisco & Sacramento area... double the base pay...$60/hr.

Among all hospitals in CA...Kaiser is top paying for RNs.

Keep in mind, cost of living.

I'm a new grad in CT. I was hired at a rehab/LTC facility for $32/hr plus differentials.

New grad in NE FL.... $23 base plus $1 shift differential..... sux. :( But it is higher than most hospitals in the area. I am working at a LTC facility. I know this is not my "home" for nursing and will most likely leave.

in ny new grads start off around $60-65,000. my friend worked in a doctors office as a new RN and made $30/hour...however there are BARELY any hospitals hiring new grads here and the cost of living is pretty high

Hello Tait!

What hospital gave you a sign on bonus? I was under the impression that none of the hospitals here in metro Atlanta were doing that anymore.

i heard that it all depends on which state you reside in and what facility you work at. plus i think it determines, or im pretty sure it matters if it's union or not. If it's union they must pay the current union wage. Do a search for union wages all 50 states and it will show you current union pay trends for each state.

Im in the DFW area of Texas and new grad with no experience is $22.85/hr. 1-2 years experience is $24.25 (tech work counts as 2:1... 2 years tech = 1 year nurse)

Evening diff $4.30

Night diff $4

Weekend diff $5

I'm a new grad ASN RN. Ive been working since Jan this year. I make $26 an hour working 11-7am mon-thurs no differential they started me at $24 and I asked for a raise because other RNs in the facility made that and I was working nights. Surprisingly they gave it to me:) I am also prn on sat and sun at another LTC and make $31 with $2 weekend differential so $33 hr for 6am-6pm. I live in Colorado Springs CO. I've tried getting on at a hospital but it's rough here with few hospitals plus they start at $23 and only $2 night shift differential. So I make more now which is nice. I'm due in December with baby #7 I'll have my year of experience and when my maternity leave is over I plan on finding a full time day position, hopefully in the hospital.
