First RN job & it's pay

Published

Hello everyone,

I would like as many responses as possible. I am located in Houston, Texas but looking to working to work anywhere in the US. I am about to get my RN license and I have started looking for a job. What should I expect my salaray or my wage/hr at my first job as a RN with no experience? If people would tell me their personal pay they received at there first job would be helpful. I've researched the web and found just a scattered range of pays. Your responses will be very appreciated. Thanks!

Home care, $60 to open the case, $45 per visit. And it is great because you are on your own time schedule.

I am in New Mexico. Starting pay at hospitals in my area, for a new grad, is 23.5. But hospital jobs are almost impossible to get. I just landed a job at a LTC facility making 20.50 an hour with a 2 shift differential because I'm working the 2-10 shift. So I'll be making 22.50. I have my ADN.

I hear if you work PRN, they pay more because of the savings to the company/hospital in terms of benefits. Have you all found that to be true?

Yes they pay more for PRN.

Not at my hospital. Same rate, just no benefits.

I just have to say that I am shocked with the pay that some RN's make. I am a new LPN and I work PRN (full time hours most weeks) making 19.50/hr. When I work night shift I make 22.50/hour. I work in a LTC facility in Nashville and the cost of living is not high here. I definatly think that RN's should make more.

I am a new RN (ADN), and I am making $23.00 base. I work nights, so I also get a $2.75 night shift differential, and there is a $2.00 weekend differential as well.

I'm in Southern CA. I'm a new grad RN BSN working night and after all differentials, I make about $45/hr. My unit allows 7 shifts/pay period. For example, 3-4-3-3 or 3-4-3-4 if desired. We do self-scheduling online but CN IV do make minor changes if appropriate.

Just out of curiosity, where in SoCal do you work? How long did it take you to find the job you have? I ask because I'd really like to move out there next year when I finish nursing school to be closer to my husband but I'm REALLY scared it will be impossible to find a job. Thats what I keep hearing anyway. :)

I'm in Texas, starting pay for me was $26 plus $3.50 evening diff and $4.50 night diff. I think some hospitals in the area start at a dollar or two more, but my benefits are much better :)

I'm so jealous. Im in New Mexico at a LTC facility. My pay (new grad) 20.50 with a 2 shift diff bc I work evenings. I am moving to FL in 8 months and from what I see the pay is the same in the area (panhandle). My husband is military so I cant move to a better area, we go where we are told.

Las Vegas, NV new grad with and ADN. I work in a major hospital on a med/surg/psych unit, pay is 29.60/hr and 1.50 if I work weekends
