First AP lecture exam! Freaking out!

Published

I have my first AP lecture exam Monday, along with a quiz in lab over the skull, tissue types and osmosis (cell membrane) lab!!! The lecture exam will cover Ch. 1-4 of Marieb, but he has power point slides that he lectures off of and told us to just memorize those! I have NO idea how to study for the test, especially since there is a lot of material being covered! I have to work tonight and Saturday night, but have ALL day Sunday and Monday (my class is at 6pm) to study. Any suggestions? I really want to do excellent! I have the basics down of Ch 1...it's the cell and functions, tissue types and the Chemistry stuff that all starts blending together. :( HELP!

if u r planning to go to nsg shool, u better get yourself together. u should have been studying all along. do u take notes in class? u should. many times the teacher will "review" what will be covered on test. make sure you listen to that part. very important! sorry if this sounds harsh, but u need to figure this out now. good luck!

Mrsb04,

Please don't be offended:heartbeat but...OMG you should have started studying the day/night after your first class. I work 30+ hrs a week, have 3kids, and I take 10 credits at night so I know it maybe hard , but you've got to study daily. Trying to learn 4 chapters in 2 days ... not a good idea!:banghead:

To answer your original question... I compare my notes to the text in order to make sure I understand what I'm learning, and then I oraganize my notes and make notecards from them, then I write the questions and answers down repeatidly ( 15/20 times if I have to) until I know it.After I know the info I use my notecards to quiz myself ( over and over) . Good Luck. It will be hard this time, but you CAN do it ... anything is possible!:twocents:

The best way I have found to study for A/P is to type my notes up immediately after class (or as soon as possible) that way you are reviewing it and keeping it fresh in your mind. As for this first test, it will probably take you a while but you might want to think about typing up your notes for this first section. I usually have out my powerpoint slides, my written notes, and the book, and as I'm typing I follow along to make sure I am getting all of the information from all 3 sources. If you keep this up after each class and don't let it build up, it really does not take long - I manage to fit this in and work 40 hrs a week as well. If you don't have time to do that before this first test you should definitely consider it in the future! Good luck on your test!

Study as you go....meaning pre-read material before class, so you have some idea as to what is being discussed. Then read it again after class (within 24 hours) and review notes/PP's. Look over notes each day. This will make studying for an exam easy....it will simply be review.

I work 50 hours a week, have two little girls, a home to care for, a wife to spend time with, and am taking 8 credits (Chem, and A&P I). A+ in both classes thus far after exams.

You CAN do it....just devote the time, and don't fall behind.

you should do fine so long as you have a good couple of hours to fully go over everything that was covered in lecture. i always did fine when i started studying only a day or two before an exam.

once you find something that works for you, stick with it. if you find out that this study method isn't for you, change it asap!

Thanks guys! Been reviewing my notes all weekend. My exam actually is being moved (my instructor had knee surgery over the weekend and isn't able to have class tomorrow) so atleast I can buy a little more time to study. I meeting with a study group tomorrow during what would be "class and lab", so hopefully reviewing with others will be helpful as well. I am trying to the typing notes thing, and it helps to see it over and over again. Thanks for your help! I hope it goes well. I am sure having a couple extra days will help out lots. Anyone know of some good skull diagrams I can print online? I like having my own to label instead of trying to draw the one in the text. LOL.

:)

I also agree with studying everyday even for a little while. For me, my class is every other Saturday and we have a lecture or lab test the next class we meet. I start studying on Monday after class and study every night for at least one hour if not more. There is a lot of material and I do not think I would be able to study the day or two before the exam and pass. This way you are not overwhelming yourself and can learn a little at a time.

I took A&P I over the summer and had to drop the class because I just could not pass it. I wasn't studying like I am now and I don't think the professor was really teaching me anything. I am not a quitter by any means but gave up.

I signed up and started A&P I again this fall with a different professor and I made a B on our first lecture exam and an A on our first lab exam. If I learned anything it is that it is a very tough class, lost to learn and to me isn't something that you can cram for.

I agree with studying a little everyday, it is so much to take in that I have to look at it everyday to keep it fresh!! I might not remember my kids names (just kidding!) but I know all of my connective tissues!
