FAU Accelerated BSN May 2010
I've lived in South Florida but I don't know much about Boca specifically. I've been searching craigslist.com for apartments. From what I know, Boca in general is nice, but a bit on the more expensive side. Coral Springs/Deerfield/Pompano can be a bit less expensive and are still close to FAU. Hope that helps narrow it down some!

My student nurse blog
I'm starting an accelerated BSN program in the summer and I LOVE reading allnurses...I would definitely love to read a blog about your personal experiences, advice, etc! As far as ideas - really anything you wish someone had told you when you were first starting out would be great! If you already have started your blog I would love to follow - you could pm me the link :) Thank you for sharing your experiences!

FAU Accelerated BSN May 2010
I received my physical acceptance letter in the mail today, and I was expecting it to be a packet containing information about orientation, books, registering for classes, etc, but it was basically a copy of the email that I received last week. Am I missing something or is everyone else missing this information as well? That is a bit frustrating since I will be living 500 miles away until mid-April and would like to know if I have to request time off for orientation!

FAU Accelerated BSN May 2010
Thanks! I received an email, haven't checked the mail yet. There wasn't much information other than Congratulations you've been accepted. From their website I found that you have to get 2 background checks (one you can do online and one you have to pick up from their office and fill out) and there are some vaccination forms that have to be sent in. There was NOTHING about orientation, class registration or books. I'm SO curious about that stuff but I called there twice today and no one answered! Good luck to you...I hope you get accepted!

FAU Accelerated BSN May 2010
I also spoke with FAU this morning before I saw this post - they said they will be sending out both letters and emails starting this week but they will not get to everyone until all the way through the second week of March. Hopefully we're all in the first batch of emails!! Good luck everyone!

FAU Accelerated BSN May 2010
I am also anxiously waiting! I read a thread some time ago from last year, and it was around Feb 20 that people started hearing. It does say on the FAU website that they have until March 31 to let us know, but I'm hoping it's MUCH sooner rather than later! Good luck!

As far as I could tell they only admit in May. They are looking for Math, Grammar, Vocab and Reading Comp HESI scores.

Getting a BSN but have BA in Business ???
http://nursing.fau.edu/index.php?main=2&nav=382 Check out that link; it's for their ABSN. It says on there that for the porgram starting in May 2010 you have to complete pre-reqs by May 1 2010; maybe you looked at the general BSN track. Good luck!

Getting a BSN but have BA in Business ???
One thing about FAU's program (this may not be true of other BSN programs) is that you can apply without having finished your pre-reqs. The program starts in May of each year, and it says on their website you have to have finished all pre-reqs by the end of April of that same year. They do not deduct points if you are still completing pre-reqs (at least, it doesn't say that they do) and obviously if you're accepted, you still have to pass your pre-reqs or your seat will be given to the next person in line. I don't know what the case is for other schools in South Florida since FAU is the only one I have applied to so far.

Getting a BSN but have BA in Business ???
I guess that just depends on the individual. I don't think these programs are for everyone; just an option. For me personally, finishing with my BSN earlier so I can continue into my masters program is important and I know that I can handle the accelerated workload, lots of students can. You just have to make that determination about yourself before going through with it. Like I said, just another option to consider! :)

Getting a BSN but have BA in Business ???
There are some great Accelerated BSN programs for students who have a Bachelors in another area; FAU, Barry and Nova I believe all have that type of program. I am applying to FAU Accelerated BSN in May 2010 (I have a degree in Finance and Italian), the program is 3 semesters and really intense, but I will finish with a BSN in a shorter amount of time than I would finish my ASN at a community college. I also plan to go into an ARNP program. I know that at FAU you can start out as RN with ASN, then to the BS-MS Dual program and indicate that you want to do the Nurse Practitioner track: http://nursing.fau.edu/index.php?main=2&nav=498; but since you don't yet have your ASN anyway ABSN might make more sense. Hope that helps and good luck!

HESI Test at FSU
I used the Evolve Hesi Admissions Test Prep book and the Barrons Nursing Entrance Exam Test Prep. For me, the best way to go about it was to pretty much memorize all the material in the books, and then take the practice tests and for every question (in the sciences sections) I would research that topic and take some notes; like, if the question asked about step 2 in meiosis, I would look up meiosis and take notes on the whole process. That got me above a 90 on all 3 scinece sections, before having taken A&P 2 and never having taken biology. It sounds time consuming, but I only studied for a week. Also, try googling "A & P Lecture Notes"; there might even be a link for them on here; that REALLY helped me get some details about all the body systems. Good luck!

FAU Accelerated BSN 2010 - questions
I actually called the College of Nursing on Thursday. We will be hearing after November 30 (they said probably in the first 2 weeks of December or in the beginning of January) if we are missing any transcripts. So if your transcripts haven't arrived yet don't worry. You should hear soon from the university that you've been accepted, that process didn't take too long. If you don't hear by the end of this week though I'd call just in case; that's probably something you want to have finished before the Nov. 30 deadline!! I just wish March would get here already so we can all find out if we got in!! Good luck to everyone and hopefully we'll all be meeting each other in a few months!
