Fingerprinting Texas Nurses

U.S.A. Texas

Published

How's everybody feel about this plan? I just got the notice today and am not feeling good about it.

TPTB already do background checks on us and have organizations like Group One to keep track of us....I feel this is 'big brother' getting more info on us than we need...

How's everybody else feel??:confused:

At this point I am just waiting to see if I will be able to start my job on time. It's out of my hands now..just have to wait and see. :rolleyes:

Same thing here, NsgTIger. I have sent everything but as of yet have not had a reply from the BNE. After I submit everything, how long will it take for me to find out if the board has decided to process my fingerprints, etc? What about the info from my school? Not to mention the ATT for NCLEX? I am thinking it definately would be easier to get my license in VA and transfer it to TX. THe only problem whit that is that per the Tx BNE's recommendations, I have already registered for NCLEX using TX as the state in which I am seeking licensure. I am tempted to pay the $50 dollar change fee so that I can just take a Part time job here and work until I get my license and can transfer to Tx. Also, I've already pain the BNE for a new license, I think the fees are different if you want to reciprocate licensure. Thanks for the encouragement. Let me know how you are getting on with the process, NSgTiger.

Specializes in ER, ICU, L&D, OR.

So what is your concerns here about big brother and fingerprinting. Taking your fingerprints are not goint to hurt you in the least, unless you have a criminal record that is undisckosed or something similar

But also keep in mind this was all started back when Bushie was still governor, of course now you have hiss little ass kissing clone in there.

I sure as hell didnt vote for the Bushie

:roll ME either! And I won't do it next time around, either. I agree that the fingerprinting isn't a bad idea in itself, i just wish that the BNE could speed things up a bit! I am SOOOOOO ready to get out of the cold here and go to sunny southern TEXAS!

Hey, NsgTiger, heard anything from the BNE lately? I sent my stuff in November, and I still haven't heard anything. UGGH! I am SO ready to get started working and to take the NCLEX. Just keeping my fingers crossed that the BNE will hurry up!

Well, if this poster is really interested and not just political bashing, I don't believe in government control over individuals. I believe in LESS government, not more. I think we're regulated enough.

And I DID vote for 'Bushie', although I'd appreciate less name calling on a BB, and more along the lines of intelligent discourse. As well as less slamming of people of different political beliefs.

Is there anything wrong with the world that some won't blame the President for??

By the way, the the BNE regulates nurses not the governor. :rolleyes:

Fingerprints today....finger implants tomorrow!?

did any one of you consider that this is an invasion of your privacy? not all states require fingerprints. in addition, do you have any idea why they want your fingerprints, where they will go, who will have access to them and what they will be used for?

i know when your have just passed your exam and are so excited about getting licensed you don't think about these things. but, a bunch of us grandma type rn's are now wondering seriously if we will even comply with these new rules since the reasons seem to be fairly nebulous.

this grannie is pretty pissed about it!

people....this is your privacy! as privacy rights are incrementally taken away, you don't think about it...you tell yourself, well that's just one thing. then they take away something else. at what point do you say "enough!"

think about how much you want to give up the "them" whoever they may be.

a lesson from wwii:

first they came for the communists, and i did not speak out - because i was not a communist;

then they came for the socialists, and i did not speak out - because i was not a socialist;

then they came for the trade unionists, and i did not speak out - because i was not a trade unionist;

then they came for the jews, and i did not speak out - because i was not a jew;

then they came for me - and there was no one left to speak out for me.

I feel the fingerprinting nurses in TX is just another "subtle" way to remind us what our "place" is.

Specializes in ICU, ER, HH, NICU, now FNP.

If I want to own a handgun in Texas - I give up my fingerprints and I submit to an FBI background check. Pretty simple. If I dont want to own a handgun then I dont have to do any of that.

If I want to practice as a nurse, then I get fingerprinted and sumbit to an FBI background check. Pretty Simple. If I dont want to be a nurse, then I dont have to do that. Nobody is forcing me to do anything. I can go work at Whataburger instead.

If you don't think the FBI knows who you are by now anyway - long before they ever got your fingerprints from the BON - you got another think coming. Just by virture of having a state license - drivers or otherwise - they know who you are. There is no additional invasion of privacy. I have nothing to hide - so whats the problem and as I said, If I dont like it I can always go work at Whataburger.

Exactly. I don't understand what the big deal is. Invasion of privacy? How? By having my name (they already have that) an my fingerprints (which have nothing to hide)? In Illinois we are fingerprinted when we take the boards. Didn't think a thing about it. It's about the board of nursing covering their asses to ensure that patients are safe. I understand that. Bad things happen in the world. If I'm innocent of any crimes, then why would I even flinch when asked to provide fingerprints? Our fingerprints aren't private anyways - don't you all remember being finger printed in grade school? Just who do you think has those prints? The FBI. Yes, back then, it was for identification in case we were abducted. But again, if you have nothing to hide, then why all the fuss now?
