Fiber and how it effects the GI Tract

Published

I'm a nursing student trying to learn how fiber directly effects the GI Tract. Does an increase in fiber result in more formed stool? Or visa versa?

Thanks!

I think this needs to become the standard response to this type of question!

Your mention of nsaid's got me thinking about gout which then got me thinking about colchicine which finally got me thinking about taking colchicine and a large quantity of high fiber food. That is a combination I don't want any part of.:lol2:

I concur. Nowadays, information is so easy to find, and Google should be used first before asking.

chloecatrn AKA rockstar.

Brilliant. I am a nursing instructor and I think I will use that link more than any other next semester. I am hoping it is just a phase, but the newest generation isn't exactly research savvy. Not that Google is the equivalent to true evidenced-based research, but there are days that I would fall over in class if students would actually look info up instead of waiting for me to pour it into their minds. Very funny.

it all depends on the type of fiber. if its water soluable it will cause loose stools potentially, if its non soluable you will get nice formed stools. the stuff good nughts are made of. lol

I have a feeling we'll be seeing this A LOT more often!!!

Ok thanks for the responses. It's clear you both don't know the answer either.

Not many feel moved to go out of their way to help someone with a poor attitude. Keep that in mind, nursing student.
