FGCU CRNA 2019

Published

Hi! I know I am early but anyone looking to apply for FGCU starting Jan 2019? Apps are due May 15, 2018! Anyone know the stats of people who have gotten in and interview tips? Thanks in advance! :)

Specializes in ICU.

Honestly, how is it OK to be interviewing & accepting students when you aren't even accredited yet? They have NOT been given the go yet. YET, they are "accepting" students. I want the job, but I also want a good education & to provide safe care to my patients!

IKR? Things that make you go hmmmmm. I would assume that Wilfords applicant pool is pretty shallow at this point and they will make exceptions for less than stellar people with bad experience.

For those of us with really good experience... This may be our chance to shine! LOL Im conflicted about the whole process of applying there. I think I will talk to my pastor about it this weekend.

Wolford has graduated over 1000 CRNAs. Their bad rep is mostly trash talk from other programs that are the competition. I liken it to the way DO programs or off-shore programs are trash-talked. I know a couple graduates of the program and they say don't believe all you hear. When you're done can you pass the exam? If yes, then I'd say you were adequately trained.

But can they pass the CRNA board? What are their pass rates? What is their "kick-out" rate? I dont know about passing boards meaning you were adequately trained. Pretty sure passing boards means you have the bare minimum training not to hurt someone. Not sure they have much competition, basically just go there when you cant go anywhere else.. Is it anyones first choice??

I know a friend from Wisconsin who is a CRNA and knows a recent Wilford grad, he said they had trouble getting into certain surgeries. My Aunt knows a local CRNA in Florida and she does not have good things to say about the students/grads.

My goal is to be a Lung Transplant CRNA so I need the big surgeries so I can feel prepared to do them when I am totally alone.

I already know everything about airway (former RRT) so I just need to jump in to the big stuff and get my feet wet.

and knows a recent Wilford grad,

It's WOLFORD, not Wilford.

I have awesome experience I was a RRT for 1 year before pacu/icu/er float pool nursing.

Most schools prefer high acuity, ICU only for experience. This may factor in to your competitiveness.

Anesthesia jobs solely caring for lung transplant cases do not exist. You may be able to care for them during their procedure occasionally in a large academic medical center but they are not that common.

I think various experiences factor in to my competitiveness. Working in different environments is better than working in some small MICU for 8 years and not knowing anything about the airway or surgery.

As an RRT i was managing 2000 g babies, doing the art lines, ABGs etc. I think they really look at the whole package and how bad you want to be an anestestit.

You might be right about Lung Transplant but these surgerys are being done. So who is doing the anesthesia? You shouldnt limit yourself just because you dont think you can do it..

Just woke up from nightshift. Anyone get any calls or emails today? Anyword at all?

I'm not trying to trash talk anyone or any program, but I will pipe in on the whole Wolford thing. My husband graduated from Wolford, and I think he is a great CRNA. However, even he will tell you to proceed with caution with this school. He has a classmate/friend from who took the NCE 4 times before passing....look at their first time pass rate...you have got to look at that before you decide to get this far in debt. Also, they have accreditation through the end of the current classes...that was done for the sake of current students, and nothing else. They technically can start another class under this extension from COA, while anticipating the new Keiser deal will get them back on track...but in short..there is no way I would roll the dice on that happening.

But I agree with ICU/EMTP about trash talk from haters. I met my husband in clinicals during a Tampa rotation, and he is a good, smart anesthetist...and even he says proceed with caution. Hope that helps.Florida is full of programs(thats why I went down), you guys stay positive.

The deal with Keiser will indeed have them back to being fully accredited and able to conduct business as usual again. The program is what you make of it, and as you point out, a smart person can make it through and do just fine. It doesn't have the individual attention and drag-you-through like other programs that depend on their pass rates to "look good." Gotta do what you gotta do!

And as an aside, how many people have taken the NCLEX multiple times? Anyone familiar with Exelsior' CPNE pass rate? It's about the individual.

Just thought I would stop stalking and join the class, I am assuming there is going to be a delay with any notifications because Director is out of town all next week. Is it fair to assume all the admission spots have been taken at this point? Does anyone know a for sure a count on how many they are accepting 18?, 24? other? they seemed unsure when I asked during my interview.
