Is it too early to start a thread like this? LOL
I'll be finishing up my pre-requisites this fall, and then applying in the spring for the Summer 2010 session. I still need to study for the NAT and actually take the exam and take a CPR course. I'm considering getting my CNA and trying to find work in healthcare to get my foot in the door.
I am so nervous about the whole process, nervous about whether I should try to work and go to school, and especially nervous if this is something I can handle. I am afraid of all the responsibility.
Anyone else planning for next Summer? What is your process looking like, what are your thoughts/feelings?
Is it more important to pick the teachers you want or the area? I live in Mandarin and really don't want to have to drive across town but for great teachers for the first term... I may.
You don't really have an option. All of the day program classes at at North Campus and depending on the semester, nights too (otherwise they are at Deerwood) And your teachers can make all the difference to if you pass a class or not especially if you are struggling.

So we won't be picking hospitals for clinicals during orientation?

I just wanted you guys to know that I started a thread for those of us who will be going to orientation on the 29th. I hope you guys will drop in and say hello!

Based on the section you pick is the hospital you get. That is part of the choice: you can either pick based on the hospital you want to go to, or the teachers you have. I would try to go to as many hospitals as possible. I went to Baptist DT, Wolfson's, Shands, Orange Park, and St. Vincent's. I would probably go more off teachers than hospital though.
First term options I have seen are Baptist DT, St. Vincent's, Memorial, and St. Lukes. Mayo and Shands are usually reserved for OB (not sure about Mayo) and 4th term and I think everyone goes to Wolfson's.
You only go one day a week first term. I went to the one close to me second term (which was Orange Park) because you literally go there three days a week (one day to pick up your care plan info, two days of clinicals). Third term, for OB, I would suggest going to Shands, as they have a lot of women without prenatal care come in, so you get to see alot. I went to St. Vincent's and saw a lot there as well, but my classmates went to Shands and saw a ton of what we were learning about. Fourth term, go to the hospital you think you might want to work. I went to Shands and saw a lot especially since it is a trauma one hospital.
