Is it too early to start a thread like this? LOL
I'll be finishing up my pre-requisites this fall, and then applying in the spring for the Summer 2010 session. I still need to study for the NAT and actually take the exam and take a CPR course. I'm considering getting my CNA and trying to find work in healthcare to get my foot in the door.
I am so nervous about the whole process, nervous about whether I should try to work and go to school, and especially nervous if this is something I can handle. I am afraid of all the responsibility.
Anyone else planning for next Summer? What is your process looking like, what are your thoughts/feelings?
Well I got my PPD test read this morning, then got a call saying they didn't draw enough blood to get the MMR titer done. I knew a quarter of a vial wouldn't be enough, but had already been stuck 7 times. Luckily my regular dr. just called me back and I am just going to run to Quest where they are competent enough to draw my blood.
I wanted to let everyone know, I'm not sure what your paperwork says about the polo t-shirt, but the website for Florida Specialty wasn't the right site to be able to order online. I spoke with someone at FL Specialty and he gave me the direct link to order:

He said they were supposed to include it in the packet, but mine didn't have that site.
Does anyone know for sure if patient transport is holding a CPR clas this wednesday as well as Tues? I've been trying to call to confirm since last thursday and I haven't been able to speak to anyone.
Advanced Patient Transport has a CPR class on both days at St. Vincent's. I left a message early on Friday and received a return call by 1pm. When you call, ask for the Community Education Department. The class is $30.
I'll be there on Tuesday. I'll be the short curly haired girl.
Yeah Haven't heard anything yet but yea figure it's one less thing I will need in the fall. I was Live Scan fingerprinted today for my concealed weapons permit and asked if it would be useable for nursing. They said that I should just have to tell them to look it up... So hopefully I won't need to pay for finger printing again come fall (or summer if by some grace of god I get in).
If anyone comes tomorrow to the CPR class, track me down and say hello. Like I said, I'm short and have dark brown curly hair.
Well, I was checking into the MyCAA for school funding. It seems they are only honoring those that have already applied and started school. For some reason they shut it down for a little while and plan to start it all back up in phases. The first phase was restarting those already enrolled. It doesn't allow new applicants to enroll as of yet. Hopefully it will start back up before classes need to be paid for because I could sure use the assistance.

Thanks for the information! I just ordered the uniforms from Meridy....$200 later, and I still haven't even ordered the stethoscope and sphygmomanometer yet! From the brief research I've done, it looks like Medisave and Allheart.com have pretty good prices. And if you can find a coupon online, even better!

Another alternative is to have your spouse assign HIS/HER benefits to you. You can still get it paid for that way. You have to contact the base education/benefits office for that. (It is allowed under the newest version of the GI Bill that became effective last August.)
Good Luck!
Does anyone know if they will be selling the skills set at orientation?
No, they were not there last term. I picked mine up along with a few others for friends I was in class with. It is not a good area of town so I wouldn't go alone. There were cops in the parking lot so once you were there it was safe. You can get the ruler there as well as a stethoscope, BP set and pocket organizer w/scissors.

I went to the website and looked for MyCAA and then called someone who walked me through it. (I don't have any names or numbers at this point.)
