FCCJ Summer 2010 hopefuls...

U.S.A. Florida

Is it too early to start a thread like this? LOL

I'll be finishing up my pre-requisites this fall, and then applying in the spring for the Summer 2010 session. I still need to study for the NAT and actually take the exam and take a CPR course. I'm considering getting my CNA and trying to find work in healthcare to get my foot in the door.

I am so nervous about the whole process, nervous about whether I should try to work and go to school, and especially nervous if this is something I can handle. I am afraid of all the responsibility.

Anyone else planning for next Summer? What is your process looking like, what are your thoughts/feelings?

:nurse:

Gonna be taking the NAT sometime next week.

I've been studying reviewing some math problems and other stuff the past week.

Pretty nervous about taking it.

I'm planning on taking it as well. Also nervous . Where are you taking yours at? I'll be at Nassau Campus. Good luck and can't wait to hear what your scores were.

I'm taking my NAT for the second time tomorrow. I got a raw score of 96.00 the last time I took it (back in August) and am hoping to do better than 100 this time. The part that messed me up was the math because I didn't just go through and answer all the easy ones first and then start working on the harder ones. I started with number 1 and worked every problem out in succession. I ran out of time far too early.

The reading was a bit misleading for me as well. I had the same paragraph to read in my first 3 questions with only slight changes (if any) I wasn't sure if I was to compare it to the above paragraph or read it as its own entity or what the heck I was to do with it. I thought that seemed tricky. Did anyone else think so?

Also, has anyone tried applying to the program online? I can't seem to get it to take me to the actual application. How are most of you applying?

Im taking mine at South Campus.

Im probably gonna apply on paper.

Good luck on your NAT misti.

Do you remember how many questions are in each section that FCCJ looks at?

I heard there is 90 questions for academic aptitude, 40 for the spelling, and 90 for the sciences

Sorry... I don't remember the number of questions on each section. I just know that I could have done better.

I just spoke to someone in the nursing department today to get a few questions answered:

#1. There is no "online submission" of the application. You must mail it or deliver it in person with your NAT scores and transcripts attached. (CPR cert. as well if you already have it)

#2. For the summer 2010 term, the night and weekend option people should be available to go to the North campus every night of the week between 6-10pm and during the day on the weekends.

The weekday option people need to be more flexible. She said that because the instructors set the schedule and it hasn't been determined for the summer term yet, weekday people should be open (available) to go to the North campus every weekday from 7am until 9pm.

From what I'm reading from some of the current nursing students on here, I would assume that she told me that because it could be fairly scheduled during any of those times.

#3. There will only be 24 slots available for the night and weekend option and all the rest will go to the weekday option.

Oh, and she told me that since they take the best of your NAT scores, if you take it more than once, just attach both result sheets to your application and highlight your best scores (of the 3 taken into account).

Just FYI... ;)

I don't believe you can actually apply for the nursing program online. The paper application has to be either mailed or delivered to the North Campus nursing department. You can get a copy of the actual nursing application at any student advisor office. Good luck with your application!:)

I started Summer 09. During first term, we only had dosage calc instruction and tests at the North Campus. All classes were held at Deerwood.

During second term, all classes and tests were at Deerwood and it looks to be the same for term 3. The only exception is the HESI which is always at the North Campus.

All I can say is that is what "Angie" in the nursing department at the North campus told me today over the phone. She specifically said that all classes will be held at North campus. The reason I clarified is because I had read your earlier post and was a little disappointed at the news they would all be at North because I live in Mandarin, much closer to Deerwood.

I don't know if it is going to be different than what you had (have) or if she didn't know what the heck she was talking about but I'm just reporting what I was told. (I hope there is a chunk at Deerwood, I'll save on gas!):twocents:

Just got back from NAT exam and I'm so glad I was able to improve my score a little bit. Now on to the application process!

I took the NAT yesterday, and didn't do as well as I needed to. I'm still going to apply, but have started looking into other colleges as well since I don't really expect to make it this term.

Was this the second time you took the nat and did they let you take ur best scores from both test?? Someone at kent told me they would only take ur best score total.
