I guess all of you are going thru the same feelings I am right now. I have turned in my application at FCCJ for the 2008 spring term and it is killing me. The more I read on here the more frightened I get. This is my first time applying and I am so nervous!!! Any words of advice to get me thru this???
Hey Folks.
Just thought I would share my findings...
I started buying books from amazon today. I'm having a hard time finding some of the books (because they come with a CD, are the student version, or whatever). Anyway, of the books I am finding (about half of them), the prices of the "New" book condition on amazon are close to the "used" price on the book list, and the "used" on amazon are lower than the "used" on the booklist.
I have bought all of my books from amazon every semester and never have any problems. Plus, they are about HALF of what the used prices are at the FCCJ bookstore. Just make sure your seller either has a good rating or buy directly from amazon.
Since we've all been shelling out lots of $$ over the last few weeks, just thought someone else may want to look into it.....save a little cash....

PS~I don't want to give the impression that all the books are half off the list price, but quite a few are considerably less expensive (plus, I won't have to figure out how to lug them out to my car!) . Also, I just noticed that two of the books on the book list are "recommended" as opposed to "required." In case that makes a difference about whether to purchase them.
thats a great idea that many of us from Fall used when we went off trying to get our books. I will admit I have not used many of the CD's found in the books except 2. The two books you definately do not want to skimp on are the Tabers med dictionary and the drug guide-- BUY them with the CD;s if you can afford them. The cds are useful b/c you can load them into your computer and you can copy/paste alot of info that (trust me) you do not want to type out! If you have a PDA, get them on PDA too as you may find them useful when you are in clinicals(( sorry PDA's cannot be used durring testing or simulations)) but,( you mayalso find it useful to see if you canget your health assessment book on PDA-- it would be a lifesaver for those days when you forget the "tests" you have to do on patient asessment at the hospital)). I have not really used by RNnotes or Nutrinotes yet. I have just kinda poked at them in spare time. but maybey I will use them next semester.. so if you want to skimp.. skimp there.

Thanks JQuezada. Are there any books that you have used, but have used VERY infrequently, so it wouldn't be such a big deal to get them in something other than like-new condition? (Except RNnotes & nutrinotes....if you haven't used them yet, you may use them tons next semester....)
I'll need to use my financial aid vouchers to buy my books, which I was told would be available for orientation... If I had that extra money, I'd definitely buy them via Amazon and then just wait for my check in the mail... Have you guys already ordered your uniforms? The size charts on the website seem a little off to me... ?!

I was told today Book Vouchers won't be available til Dec 17th... if we need our books before that like one person said before on here... well were SOL
I was wondering if anyone might be interested in a roommate situation with me as a fellow nursing student. I'm going to be in the Night and weekend classes and I believe the classes to be at the Deerwood campus which is right down the road from me. My roommate is moving out on December 5th and thought it would be awesome to have a nursing student at FCCJ be my roommate. I live at 9A and Gate parkway... literally 5 minutes away from FCCJ Deerwood. It's a 3/2 condo on the first floor and you would be getting the master bedroom with bathroom and walk in closet(big). If you are interested and would like more details please feel free to message me.
I am a fourth term nursing student at FCCJ and I want to wish you all the best!!! It will be over before you know it. Just take it one day at a time and know that everything you will go through over the next sixteen months will make you stronger. Try not to procrastinate and get the most you can out of every experience. Best of luck to each and everyone of you!
P.S. As for as Nutri-notes I never used them except for careplans. I found this website and never touched the book again... http://www.med.umich.edu/clinical/images/Available-Diet-Orders-at-UMHS.pdf
GOOD LUCK
did you order your uniforms by the size you wear? I thought the sizes and measurements didn't match... I'm having a hard time deciding what to order: I just had a baby, so I plan on losing weight over the next few months or longer. I don't want to order some pants but have them be too big if I continue to lose my "baby weight"

yes. we'll register at orientation--the day students will have to select their section, which is done by a lottery system.
