FCCJ Spring 2008

Published

I guess all of you are going thru the same feelings I am right now. I have turned in my application at FCCJ for the 2008 spring term and it is killing me. The more I read on here the more frightened I get. This is my first time applying and I am so nervous!!! Any words of advice to get me thru this???

So you're going? I think thats a good decision ..

I agree! Congrats on making the decision to go!

Hey guys! I"m nights and weekends too. I'm nervous about starting the program too. I have a 3 1/2 month old and a 2 year old(non-napper). I'm looking forward to meeting you all as well. Does anyone know if our classes are at Deerwood? I sure hope so.

Just an idea I had and thought I would share...

A couple of months bought a one-year subscription to "nursing made incredibly easy" through eBay for about $15. I thought it may have some complex ideas boiled down and be a good aide through nursing school.

Anyway, I got my first issue today and I'm glad I ordered it! It reminds me of Cliff Notes, with great color pictures and diagrams too.

I just thought I would pass it along in case anyone else would see it as a good reference/time saver for the more complex material we may encounter over the next 16 months together.

Thanks for the tip. I'm kind of a visual learner and this could definately help me. I used to look for programs on Discovery Channel when I was in Anatomy class to help me understand certain concepts. How is first term going for you?

I haven't started yet....I'll be in the night/weekend program in January.

Careful, my friend in the program works at that Solantic, she knows what she's doing (taught me how to set IVs for the 2nd simulation exam).

Just go to Northside Medical, its cheaper and they have a contract with the school. When you get outside of the norms at FCCJ, bad things happen. Also, for those born outside of the country MAKE SURE YOU GET YOUR TITER RESULTS. If your titer results are not turned in to the nursing office, you will be exited from the program. Nearly saw it happen.

Seriously, I don't want to get into the details, but Solantic nearly took off my arm. I almost passed out. Luckily I'm a fairly high spirited person, so I stuck it out with no complaints! But figuratively speaking, they took my arms and legs cus now I'm so broke!!! :trout:

if i were any of you i'd call northside medical clinic now! their prices are much lower! i paid a total of $158 for my physical, ppd, tetorifice, and titers.

this is fccj pricing... the physical was $35, the hep b titer is $22, the varicella titer is $30, the rubella titer is $17. the vaccines for the hep b are $50 a piece(3 shots times $50), the varicella is $75, and the rubella vaccine is $65.

hope this helps!

ps. i just saw someone else posted the pricing before me haha... as you can see i didn't read all the post and was concerned that everyone was going to pay so much money!

what??! i went to get my titers done at quest diagnostics and i paid $45 for rubella, $45 for varicella and $55 for hepatitis titers!!! i felt so ripped off!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

i came back negative for hepatitis so i am signining a declination form.. but just to be safe because i know that hepa b is not curable, i am still going to get my shots and i am doing it at northside med sooner or later!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

hey guys, do we register for classes at the orientation?? because i am trying to find classes on artemis but nothing is coming up.. i heard that we have to do a lottery or something.. can someone clarify this for me? :D thanks!

The letter I got was in response to my appeal!! The only thing that is strange is there was one sentence bolded stating "Student must be accepted into the nursing program before financial aid is approved" But another sentence said I was denied and the decision was final??? I took a personal day off work and am heading onto campus shortly. Hopefully showing them my acceptance letter will change things. Keep your fingers crossed for me!

interesting story: i am going to be in the daytime program and i am going to get my AA by the end of this fall. financial aid said i would be disqualified for aid because i already achieved an "AA status" therefore i can work and pay for school at the same time. i told them that i am going for my AS in FCCJ and they told me to talk to a nursing counselor for an appeal.. what can nursing counselors have to do with financial aid and money??!! DONT GO TO SOUTH CAMPUS FINANCIAL AID OFFICE because they have NO IDEA at ALL on how to fix this thing!!

Hey Hun, don't even worry about it. When the time comes do a 150% appeal and let them know you applied and got in and are currently a nursing student and they will grant you the financial aid. I had to do it because I already have an AA from FCCJ. I got it in 2005 and was at UNF until now so. Anyway, don't fret. You'll get the aid!

I know it's so frustrating! I got denial reversed by bringing in my acceptance letter and speaking to the Elaine Cornwell at Deewood campus. She gave my info to the dean, Margot something and they reversed the denial. Don't bother with the nursing counselors, just got to Deewood Financial Aid counter. Let me know how it goes!
