  1. I first introduce myself to all my patients while checking on their individual needs. Next I do my chart checks hopefully without interruptions since I have addressed and assisted all my patients. Then I start to make my assessment rounds with meds and chart as I go. This is how it is suppose to go as we all know things change quickly in nursing, but if all goes well I am finished with all this by 2130 at the latest. Now it should be mentioned that I work on a cardiac intervention floor and most of our patients are walkie talkie.
  2. We always IVP all Dilaudid never have given 4mg at one time. Plus if you give it in 50ml are you in the room the whole time it is being given or are you leaving a narcotic???? That would be a big issue...
  3. I had this same problem in nursing school and I too hated it. It shows that you care and you want to do the skill correct. It does go away as you gain more confidence. You get more confidence with practice. So like most things it will get better with time. Best of luck to you!!!

Those are the instructors that I had for Peds. H is a little on the not so exciting side of lecture. Just always be prepared for your clinicals with Dr. H. She wants you to succeed but can be a little harsh if you are not prepared. Dr. H is very hands on and expects your best. It is a great experience and you will do great!!!

The tests are not that hard at all. They had changed the tests in my third semester in OB and some did fail. They have since been fixed to not be that crazy difficult. Who do you have for OB and Peds and where are your clinicals? As far as what do you do all day in 12 hour clinicals...well that again depends on your clinical instructor. I had Dr. H and we were busy. She loves this area and will expect a lot out of you, but you will learn. We had two patients from the beginning. It is the best semester of nursing school and the most relaxed. Fourth term is intense but you will make it and be fine. Hope I helped you some...let me know if you have anymore questions!!! Best of luck to you!!!

I have taken both at FCCJ and enjoyed them. I know that your clinical location and instructor will make the most difference. Let me know if you have a specific question.
  7. I am a fourth term nursing student at FCCJ and I want to wish you all the best!!! It will be over before you know it. Just take it one day at a time and know that everything you will go through over the next sixteen months will make you stronger. Try not to procrastinate and get the most you can out of every experience. Best of luck to each and everyone of you! P.S. As for as Nutri-notes I never used them except for careplans. I found this website and never touched the book again... http://www.med.umich.edu/clinical/images/Available-Diet-Orders-at-UMHS.pdf GOOD LUCK
  8. I attend FCCJ nursing program!!
  9. You get your schedules on orientation day. There will be 12 blocks with a set of classes in each block. The fun part is you choose your classes via a lottery system. If you get number 1 you get first choice and so on. Tests are on Mondays from 3-5:30. Here was my first term schedule if it helps: Mon- tests 3-4 if one test and 3-5:30 if two tests Tues- Pharm 9-12 Wed- concepts 9-12 and Health Assess 1-4 (then once clinicals started head to hospital to get patient info to write careplan) Thurs-Techniques 7-2:30 (clinicals 6:45-3:00) Friday- off The best advice is try not to have a late class the day before clinicals and it is very nice to have no classes on test day!! Best of luck to all of you and from what I understand if you can make it through first term you should be good!!!
  10. Congratulations to all of you!!! I am almost done with my first semester in the nursing program at FCCJ (thank goodness) Best of luck to all of you it is an experience. :)
  11. #1- age 23 #2- age 25 Two years apart was very difficult for at least the first 4 months. Now my children are the best of friends. As far as a perfect age there is not one. Age is just a number and all people are different. People mature and achieve goals at all different ages. I think the prime time to have a baby is when you are in a nurturing relationship and both partners are in agreement that having a child is right. You don't have to be wealthy just secure enough to provide the things that a child will need.
  12. I would have to agree with everyone else that your course load might be a little much. It is good that you dropped one. I do think that the less free time you have is sometimes a good thing. This way you can not put things off as easy and have to set time to study. I worked part-time, have two children, a home, and a husband and I did my pre-reqs this way. I made only one B but I only took 2 classes at a time. The last semester was the hardest I had A&P II and Micro, but I did it because that is what I had to do to get in. Best of luck to you and you CAN do it if you tell yourself you can.
  13. Classes start August 28
